Hi. Newbie here. My story … i felt a lump on 8/8, saw GP 10/8, referral to fast track. Apt 3/9, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies taken. Went back in to see consultant. He said that the lump is suspicious, it’s been caught early and is very treatable with either surgery, medication, chemo and/or radiotherapy - or a mixture. He then said upon leaving the appointment, I’m very sorry for this news.
I’m assuming therefore I do have BC, but of course nothing 100% until results day. Not been contacted yet and it’s agonising.
Anyone else had this conversation and it not be BC?
Many thanks
Dear Soupy1cat,
So pleased you have come to the forum, at such a worrying time for you, together with the waiting for you test results.
Unfortunately, this can be the most stressful time, let’s hope you will have your results quite soon and be able to put a plan into action as one of the other ladies on this site always quotes no one has cancer until you’re actually told the words and I really feel this is true.
Take care, one day at a time lots of TLC please let us know how you’re getting on.
Fingers crossed for a good outcome, wishing you well going forward.
Biggest hugs Tili
Hallo Soupy1cat,
I had a similar experience to you, having found a small lump, gp, then breast clinic where I was mammogrammed, scanned, poked, prodded, biopsied, markered, and told to return in a week but to bring someone as it wouldn’t be good news. The next week the consultant bluntly told me " you have cancer, you need an operation", that took place on 24th July and tbh I’ve never looked back. I’m awaiting radiotherapy and started on Letrozole, but it’s been fine and after reading some of the stories on here I feel like a fraud as my recovery has been so easy. I wish it could be the same for all of us, and I sincerely hope you have a good outcome.
It hasn’t been all plain sailing, but it’s been okay, I feel very lucky.
I assume your bi-rads score was a 5 then? If so, it means they are 95% sure it’s cancer. HOWEVER, they are wrong sometimes and you can find tons of stories where they were. Just read one last week on breastcancer.org where she had a bi-rads 5 that was biopsied and found to be a benign desmoid tumor. So yes, they can be wrong and nothing is ever sure until the biopsy results come back. Try not to borrow trouble. But if worse comes to worst, know that it will be hard but probably not as hard as you anticipate because breast cancer treatments have come quite far in the last 20 years. They are pretty amazing and the vast majority of people go on to live healthy lives afterwards. We’ll also of course be here if you need us. Good luck!
Hi, thanks for your replies
I haven’t had my results yet so I don’t know what birads are ?
I’ve received a call today from the breast nurse to say that my next apt is 14th September. I asked what the results were and she said that she couldn’t say over the phone but did say that I do need treatment.
I’ll let you know what is said next week.
Thanks again
Ive just got in from work and have received the copy letter the hospital have sent to my GP. It says that the mammogram showed a relatively well defined 25mm density with indeterminate appearance. It also says that the scan revealed an 18mm irregular low echo mass with suspicious appearance.
Does anybody now what these mean?
Many thanks
They’re just describing the ultrasound results. You have two areas that they’re concerned about and I assume those are what was biopsied.
Ah ok, thank you x
Soupy1cat
I feel fortunate having read yours and other comments in that I was told at the end of my fast track referral, with the mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies that it was early stage grade 3 multiple tumours, the largest being 37mm. I was shocked as my last routine clear mammogram was less than 2 years ago. When I saw surgeon a couple of weeks later he propsed mastectomy, but to be honest I had already figured that if there is at least 2 tumours as ultrasound showed I just want rid of the whole breast.
Like others I haven’t had a conversation about birads. I’ll ask at my pre op next week.
I wish you well, and hope you find this forum useful x
Hi again
Just back to confirm that yes I do have breast cancer. Grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma.
They didn’t say the stage and said that I would be told after lumpectomy which is booked for 10th October. It may be brought forward if Consultant strikes are cancelled. I’ll then have radiotherapy and be told whether I’ll need chemo.
Anyone else had this and what was your treatment?
Thanks
Dear Soupy1cat,
Sad to read your post confirming you have breast cancer, we are all here for you, keep posting it really does help, we all understand how you’re thinking and feeling.
I have had breast cancer in both side, a mastectomy the first time without radiotherapy or chemo, however with a few problems the 2nd time was a lumpectomy with radiotherapy which I found so much easier than the first time round,
I do wishing you lots of luck with your surgery on the 10th October, also your treatment. Take one day at a time, look after yourself. Will be thinking of you.

,
I’m so sorry to hear it came back cancer. I know it’s a horrible feeling. At any rate, I had a grade 3 IDC also. Ended up doing a double mastectomy and my oncotype came back intermediate and since I was under 50 that meant chemo. It was touch but doable. I didn’t have any radiation since my nodes were clear. Let me know if you have any questions but there are plenty of us here.
I am new to forum my journey started only with nipple discharge , Gp referred me to one stop clinic had mammogram biopsy ultrasound as I had dcis 2008 grade 0 removed didn’t need rads 15 years later 5cm high grade dcis 2 wide excisions still can’t get clear margins having mastectomy in October as pathology found micropapillary cancer which is rare having skin sparing MX and implant so scared off outcome anyone in the same position x
Dear Charlotte,
So pleased you have come to the forum, we are all here for you, unfortunately I can’t offer any advice on your breast cancer diagnosis as I don’t know enough about your condition, however feel sure one of our other ladies will be able to help.
Thinking of you, with surgery ahead wishing you well for a good recovery with lots of TLC
