Can anybody tell me how long treatment appointments are? I know that the planning appointment can take a couple of hours, but I forgot to ask oncologist how much time I should allow for each of the 15 daily appointments.
I really should remember to write these questions down as I always forget to ask the most obvious things
The actual sessions only last about 10 minutes, including dressing & undressing, but it is hard to predict how long you could find yourself sitting in the waiting room beforehand. That will vary between hospitals.
I agree with Jenifers post, the treatment only takes 10 minutes but sometimes the waiting can be half hour. Also on my clinic appointments which I had two, I was at the hospital for about 3 hours,
It sounds like I should allow an hour at the hospital plus about an hour and a half for travel, so not too bad. I had forgotten about the weekly clinic appointments as well.
I have been told to use e45 cream at least twice a day to keep skin in good condition.
Hi just reading this post as i will be due for five weeks of radio soon.I will have a 50 mile round trip daily…will there be other weekly appointments ill need to attend too? What are these for and will they be at my usual clinic? Thanks Linda x
HiPinky 3, I thought I would join in and offer my experience of Rads I had. I did 3 weeks daily with a round trip, including travel to and from Oxford, waiting around at hospital and 10-15 minutes in the Rads room, I guess altogether was anywhere from 3-4 hours.
I took up the offer of the Ambulance cars to travel and met some lovely funny people, when you are all going through a similar thing you find such humour about everything! On my first appointment when my husband took me was the one where we met everyone and had the CT Scan and the tattoos on your skin and you meet some of ther nursing team who are available any time to speak to after each Rads session, so that you dont have to attend separate checkups each week.
Then when my 3 weeks were finished I had a final appointment with a Radiology specialist here in my local hosipital in Swindon a few weeks later for a checkup and they signed me off their register.
It certainly was an experience I wont forget and i keep in touch with a great mate i met who lives within walking distance of me and we chat on Facebook.
I hope your Rads go well and you sail through them!
