Hi, I’m a 39 year old mum of 6 grandmother of 1, full time student nurse. I have had a large thickened area in my right breast for a couple of months but it has become painful deep within my breast and armpit and increased in size, after visiting the gp who has recognised some thickening in both breast but far more in the upper right quadrant of the right breast. The gp made a refferal for me and I have an appointment at breast clinic on 18th June, I am very worried, I need to know if this is serious, I have another year left on my degree and I need to make plans for support with my children if it turns out that I need treatment, as a student nurse I should know I have to wait and see but I’m so worried.

Hi Hun , I hope it turns out to be nothing but there is no way of telling untill you have your appointment. Waiting is so hard, but you have done the best thing in getting it checked. I am 40 and had thickening and although mine turned out to be bc there are many other things it could be.keep us posted and wishing you all the best x
Thank you Deb, it is so worrying, and at times is very uncomfortable both in my breast and armpit, I am nearing the end of my second year of my nursing degree and the waiting and stress is driving me mad, I am trying to carry on as normal until I know more but it’s so difficult to concentrate. It’s nice to have someone to talk to, did you have any other symptoms with your bc, how are you doing now, what treatment did you have and how have you coped? X
