New to the site!!

Hi all. I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks back and have had tests etc. I have just got my start date for chemo which is the 20th April. I also had a appointment on the 15th with the orthotist for a wig but have now had to change that to the 29th but my hair will have started falling out by then so was just wondering if people think it is best to get a wig whilst I’ve still got hair so it will be the same colour etc or does it not really matter?? Thank you xx

Hi Angel

I got my wig before I even had my surgery, my plan is/was left Mx with lymph node clearance and immediate recon with strattice, then chemo, them rads then hormone therapy.  I start chemo on 14th and am a bit anxious.  I wanted to get my wigs and headgear all ready, as I always knew I would have chem and would lose my hair.  As regards colour, it doesnt really matter does it, you can match your own, they have so many shades available, or you can have something completely different.  I actually had my shoulder length bob hair cut to a pixie cut before surgery.  It was much easier to look after post op.  I got two wigs (yes I know - greedy) got one short pixie one similar colour to my own, in fact family never noticed I hadput it on lol, and I got a longer, darker bob so I can have a change, and it is a colour I have never been lol - 2 new women for my OH lol.  Look at the AnnaBandana site online, they are much cheaper than elsewhere, for hats/scarves etc etc, I also got a fringe on a band which Ican wear under headgear for another change.  I have never been fringless and have a high forehead so I am gonna look awful otherwise, especially without eyelashes etc etc good lunck with your choice, have fun with it and be different if u want.  Might as well treat ourselves when we can.  Take Care Val xxx

Also Angel, there is a group of us on here called Chemo April starters, have a look and join the group, we are all supporting eachother which really helps. xxxx
