New to this, new to a forum

Hi all, I guess this is how it goes now, lots of new things to explore :thinking:. New to BC and never been on a forum either. Mammogram and unexpected biopsy almost 7 wks ago, diagnosed almost 4 wks ago, op this week! Recovery now started following a lumpectomy on a 16mm lump and breast conserving surgery bilaterally matched.
All this followed me saying to GP that I felt there were slight changes in breast, which I had said before and once again they said they didnā€™t think there was anything specific there, I just had ā€˜lumpyā€™ breasts and that they were small if anything. Thatā€™s it, none of the normal symptoms, unless you count battling with peri/ menopausal symptoms for years, something else they were reluctant to help with. Fast forward and here we are.
Moral of the story for anyone who is saying ā€œI wonderā€. You know your body, push for that mammogram and or further tests. If Iā€™d listened to my GP, I wouldnā€™t be where I am now, and as much as I donā€™t want to be here, Iā€™d rather that than a few more years down the line with it spread!
Shock, anger, frustration, sadness you name it has followed. Not sure how Iā€™m going to get through this but Iā€™m going to give it my best :crossed_fingers:t2:. Thank you for reading.

Hello @sunflowers23
Welcome to the forums and the club no-one wants to join
Iā€™m sorry you are feeling so let down by your GP not taking your concerns seriously but Iā€™m so glad you followed your instincts.
Breast Cancer world is a huge scary place: I likened it to walking into a room full of complete strangers but once Iā€™d been in it for a while and explored a bit more (ie learned a bit more about my diagnosis and treatment plan) it didnā€™t feel quite so scary. I also started talking to people who are part of this world both here on the forums and in real life and trust me when I say pretty much anyone you talk to who has had a diagnosis will be so kind to you as ā€œwe just knowā€
There are so many wonderful resources available, please feel free to reach out to any of the support available through Breast Cancer Now, MacMillan and if you are near a centre Maggieā€™s
If you like using social media I can recommend following Dr Liz Oā€™Riordan, tickingoffbreastcancer and the.hormone.doc on Instagram
I completely understand how you are feeling at the moment but I promise you will find your way through: you are on a well trodden path but your create your own footprints as you go finding out what works for you.
Please donā€™t hesitate to post on the forums: thereā€™s no such thing as a silly question, if it matters to you then it matters.
I hope your recovery from surgery goes well and wishing you all the best with your further treatments

Wow, @adoptedmanc thank you, that is such a heart felt reply, beautifully worded and so so true and spot on. It has already made me feel better. I will continue talking as much as I can as naturally shy. But it felt better typing out my thoughts, weirdly, than writing them. Iā€™ve read loads and speak with my BCN but sometimes knowing that Iā€™m not going mad and that others can relate, not just the medical people who know, helps. Everyoneā€™s journey is different and personal and itā€™s nice to know that there is a place, like this where we can ask those questions that we wonder the answer to. Thank you again, I wish you all the best to SF23 xx

@sunflowers23

You are very very welcome, this is what we are all here for :hugs:
Prior to my diagnosis and treatment I was someone who didnā€™t like to ask for help, and Iā€™m really not sure what I thought breast cancer support would be like: I discovered thereā€™s no ā€œrightā€ or ā€œwrongā€ way to deal with your treatment and everyone you encounter in BC world will be so kind, you will get though it
