Hi all, I guess this is how it goes now, lots of new things to explore . New to BC and never been on a forum either. Mammogram and unexpected biopsy almost 7 wks ago, diagnosed almost 4 wks ago, op this week! Recovery now started following a lumpectomy on a 16mm lump and breast conserving surgery bilaterally matched.
All this followed me saying to GP that I felt there were slight changes in breast, which I had said before and once again they said they didnāt think there was anything specific there, I just had ālumpyā breasts and that they were small if anything. Thatās it, none of the normal symptoms, unless you count battling with peri/ menopausal symptoms for years, something else they were reluctant to help with. Fast forward and here we are.
Moral of the story for anyone who is saying āI wonderā. You know your body, push for that mammogram and or further tests. If Iād listened to my GP, I wouldnāt be where I am now, and as much as I donāt want to be here, Iād rather that than a few more years down the line with it spread!
Shock, anger, frustration, sadness you name it has followed. Not sure how Iām going to get through this but Iām going to give it my best . Thank you for reading.
Hello @sunflowers23
Welcome to the forums and the club no-one wants to join
Iām sorry you are feeling so let down by your GP not taking your concerns seriously but Iām so glad you followed your instincts.
Breast Cancer world is a huge scary place: I likened it to walking into a room full of complete strangers but once Iād been in it for a while and explored a bit more (ie learned a bit more about my diagnosis and treatment plan) it didnāt feel quite so scary. I also started talking to people who are part of this world both here on the forums and in real life and trust me when I say pretty much anyone you talk to who has had a diagnosis will be so kind to you as āwe just knowā
There are so many wonderful resources available, please feel free to reach out to any of the support available through Breast Cancer Now, MacMillan and if you are near a centre Maggieās
If you like using social media I can recommend following Dr Liz OāRiordan, tickingoffbreastcancer and the.hormone.doc on Instagram
I completely understand how you are feeling at the moment but I promise you will find your way through: you are on a well trodden path but your create your own footprints as you go finding out what works for you.
Please donāt hesitate to post on the forums: thereās no such thing as a silly question, if it matters to you then it matters.
I hope your recovery from surgery goes well and wishing you all the best with your further treatments

Wow, @adoptedmanc thank you, that is such a heart felt reply, beautifully worded and so so true and spot on. It has already made me feel better. I will continue talking as much as I can as naturally shy. But it felt better typing out my thoughts, weirdly, than writing them. Iāve read loads and speak with my BCN but sometimes knowing that Iām not going mad and that others can relate, not just the medical people who know, helps. Everyoneās journey is different and personal and itās nice to know that there is a place, like this where we can ask those questions that we wonder the answer to. Thank you again, I wish you all the best to SF23 xx
You are very very welcome, this is what we are all here for
Prior to my diagnosis and treatment I was someone who didnāt like to ask for help, and Iām really not sure what I thought breast cancer support would be like: I discovered thereās no ārightā or āwrongā way to deal with your treatment and everyone you encounter in BC world will be so kind, you will get though it
