Hi,
Please bear with me i am new to all of this, I was after some advice help ect, I have just discovered a lump under my nipple area on my left breast, I am thinking that this is only a blocked duct or cyst as breast cancer is usually a lump on the side of the breast am I right?

Hi Rocky, please make an appointment with your GP for a referral to the breast clinic as all lumps, changes to the breast etc need to checked out. Breast cancer can appear anywhere in the breast depending on what type it is. Mine was very close to the nipple. Having said that, the majority of lumps are not breast cancer but some other benign condition. Please do not google, as a lot of the information is out of date, inaccurate or just plain wrong! Not only that, your imagination will run riot and you’ll frighten yourself to death. Stay on this site or the Macmillan one for accurate information and support. Try not to worry too much, I know, much easier said than done but you do need to see your GP. Do let us know how you get on, here’s hoping you don’t have to join our club, best wishes Pat x
Bump.
Hi,
Thanks for the replys, I did make an appointment with the GP Later that day, he did find the little lump, i have been refered and am going to the breast clinic next monday.
I now am totally paranoid as cant seem to feel it anymore, not sure if its me just worrying but have checked and cant!! Should i cancel my appointment at the clinic as dont want to waste their time!
The only thing at the back of mind to keep the appointment is that Breast Cancer has been in my family my aunt (mothers sister) had her breast removed and my great aunt (mothers aunt).
Hi Rocky, please don’t cancel your appointment, you aren’t wasting their time especially as BC has been in your family on your mothers side. I went to my GP because my nipple was starting to invert a little and I had noticed a small dip in the area around it, my lovely GP couldn’t feel anything and neither could I but the consultant at the Breast Clinic obviously could. I had a mammogram and ultrasound straight away and the small lump 8mm showed up on the ultrasound, I still couldn’t feel it. That was in January, I’ve since had a lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy which showed no cancer in my lymph nodes so no need for chemo, 15 sessions of radiotherapy and am on hormone therapy (Anastrozole) for five years. I wouldn’t say I’m back to how I was last year, but I am very happy with my “new normal”. Hope everything goes well for you at the clinic, keep us posted as to how you are doing. Best wishes Pat xx
Hi Rocky,
Ditto all of above. I had two very small hard lumps near the nipple and felt quite hystrionic going to GP. Only did so because of family history of breast and ovarian cancer. Diagnosis was a shock, but on the big plus side, my hystrionincs meant it was found nice and early so excellent prognosis with relatively speaking not too much treatment. You are doing the right thing!
Good luck
Deborah
Thanks for your support and your wise words, I am keeping my appointment for Monday, will let you know how it goes
xx
