New triple negative diagnosis

Hello everyone, I had a brief phonecall from my lovely consultant to let me know that I have tested positive for triple negative BC, high grade, about 2cms, I looked on Google, rookie error and all these words are terrifying. I’m on holiday abroad (lovely consultant had told me no point sitting around waiting). Appointment with consultant on 26.5.2022 for the full biopsy debrief. He has discussed my results with an oncologist and I’ll most likely kick off with 6 cycles of chemo, 3 weeks apart and then surgery. Any guidance about sensible questions to ask at my consultation? I had to go private to get a mammogram and biopsy but am being referred back into NHS. Didn’t help tonight when watching a soap opera (Emmerdale!) and a character is told her triple neg is basically a death sentence. At the moment, I look totally ok of course and I’m not sure husband, family and friends realise how tough this will be…I’m the coper, the planner and the rock…but that’s not how I feel right now. Thank you for any advice or positive outcomes. xx

Hi from another TNer.

I’m so sorry to find you here but you have found the right place. There’s loads of advice from Shi so I won’t confuse you further. I just wanted to point out that the Emerdale story is about a Stage 4 diagnosis (secondary, her cancer had been treated but is back - after decades away from it I’ve been tuning in to see how the story develops. I’m sure they’ve done their research. It’s NOT the condition your have, remember that) It’s the Stage 4 that is regarded as ‘incurable’ (hateful word) rather than the TNBC. Yes, TNBC can be tricky - there are fewer treatment options (still plenty though) and it’s a rapid-moving cancer requiring immediate attention. You won’t find anyone dragging their feet.

I too started off in the private sector but the oncologist transferred me across to the NHS for chemotherapy etc. It’s way too expensive. You see the same consultants, get the same treatment, so you don’t lose out at all, I wish you all the best in your treatment. Don’t forget to let us know how you get on. Try to relax and enjoy your holiday, you lucky things.
