Hello, sorry that you find yourself here. I am TN too. If you go to the monthly chemo threads there will be lots of ladies at the same stage as you. The unit where you’ll be having your chemo will contact you & arrange for a pre chemo chat where they’ll tell you what to expect. They say it follows a pattern & it really does. So if you feel rough the first 5 days on your first cycle, it’ll be the same for each cycle. I was unlucky & had a recurrence so have been through chemo twice. If they suggest a PICC it does make it easier as saves trying to find a vein & bloods are instant. The downside is the weekly flush & dressing change. As much as you won’t feel like it, drink loads & try & get out for a walk when you’re feeling up to it. I could ramble on for ages so feel free to PM me if any questions you can think of. They start of on the lowest anti sickness medication, you’ll have steroids each time which give you the hottest, redest face for a good 4/5 days. The steroids can give you heartburn too. I’m not selling it am I!! ? It is doable, I found I’d feel awful the first 5 days but then gradually I’d feel better. Sickness was an issue on the first cycle, after that I had akynzeo which I took an hour before the chemo & this worked well. Apart from the first week I’d still be able to do the school run, cooking, washing etc. I had the AC chemo the first time, then docetaxol & carboplatin the second time. Wishing you all the best xx
Thank you so much for your reply
And don’t worry the side effects didn’t sound great , I would much rather a true feeling of what to expect , and sorry to read your back for a second time xx
Hi Kateday
It’s Emily here from Breast Cancer Care.
I just wanted to let you know that we have a few email volunteers who had a trple negative diagnosis. I’m sure they’d welcome an email from you if you wanted any of them to share their experiences about their treatment.
You can find their email addresses and profiles here, and you can search by clicking the ‘triple negative’ filter.
Best wishes
Emily at Breast Cancer Care
