Hi all, before I dive in and start asking questions I’ll introduce myself a little-I’m 35,live in Lincolnshire with my hubby and 2 gorgeous kids.Have been reading this forum for a few days now,so thought I’d go for it and post
While in the bath last week,I saw a strange mark on my left breast.I felt it,and there was a lump underneath it.Didn’t worry too much at the time (always think postive and all that lol),but went to doctors on Wednesday, and she could feel it too,so has referred me to the breast clinic.I am there next week. However,I got up this morning and felt for it,and it appeared to have shrunk (yay!).But within an hour or two,its starting to reappear, although not to its previous size yet.My dilemma is-what if it disappears?(will obviously be over the moon lol).Do I still go to the clinic or not?I’ll feel silly going in and saying I’m here about a lump I did have but its gone now.But then if I don’t go,and it comes back,I’ll feel silly for not going.Don’t want to waste their time at all,not sure what I should do.Any opinions gratefully received.
Jenny
You go in - I am quite certain that the breast clinic staff are overjoyed to be able to put someone’s mind at rest… far nicer than having to break the news of breast cancer!
If you don’t go in, you know you’ll find it again, and you’ll be stressing, and it will be awful. I have no idea what your lump is (!!), but chances are it will be a cyst or something similar, and you can leave the clinic with a big smile and get on with enjoying Christmas.
Please let us know!!

Hi there Jenny
The one thing I have learned from this forum is that any, any changes should be checked out. Most think they will find a definite lump and often this is the case but if there are any changes to the norm, they should be checked - please don’t worry about wasting someone’s time.
That said, please don’t automatically assume the worse either, but for your own peace of mind, please get it checked out!
This place is wonderful, supportive and funny and downright sad sometimes, but I would have gone completely cuckoo without it!!
This is the worst time, waiting for an appointment, but my thoughts are with you

I can only agree - Get it checked - sometimes lumps react to hormones BUT any lump or anything found should be checked - just to be sure & also out your mind at rest as much as anything. You have the appointment so def GO!!!
Hey,
I totally agree with all of the above, don’t feel embarrassed, or that your wasting the hospitals time, get it sorted then you can put your mind at ease (fingers crossed) x

Thankyou all for your kind replies.
I attended my appointment yesterday, and to my great relief got the all clear
However,my experience at the clinic was not a pleasant one,the attitude of the staff did indeed make me feel like I was wasting their time.So much so,an official complaint is being made.I desperately hope reading this doesn’t put anyone else off going for a check-up,but my intention is to avoid anyone else being treated the same way as I was yesterday. It has left me distressed, humiliated and very embarrassed.I appreciate how hard most of the staff work, and that they have ladies in need of more attention than myself. But I feel I must speak up on behalf of any future patients,so they don’t endure the treatment I received.
So sorry for my rant, once again I want to thank you all for your replies, and send best wishes to you all xxx

I’m so pleased you got the all clear, but distressed on your behalf about the attitude you encountered from the staff. You were absolutely right to go to the clinic, your gp referred you, for heaven’s sake, so it obviously wasn’t your imagination! Good for you on putting in a complaint - I hope very much that they will rethink their attitude, and understand that until we are told there is nothing, we all live in exactly the same fear that there might be! You deserved more than that.
Have a wonderful Christmas now, and look forward to a fab. New Year.
