Hi gang! I’m a complete newbie - I received my diagnosis on 12th August and I’m scheduled for a lumpectomy on 9th September but I’m trying to prepare myself for everything (as much as I can!)
I’ve been told that I will need a course of radiotherapy after my op.
Quick overview - I’m 35, ‘healthy’, no allergies, no underlying health conditions.
Any advice, hints and tips would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry you find yourself on here just_jessies Button front pyjamas and short sleeve, pair of flip flops and dressing gown for hospital, hand cream and lip balm. Zip front cardi or hoody for post op easy to get on and off do your exercises post op, I stuck sticky dots on door frame ti check progress daily on rads drink lots of water and everyone finds cream that works for them from e45, aveno, moo goo, dr organics aloe Vera gel, you will find the one that’s right for you, your team keep close eye on your skin during rads and if needed will give you a cream to use too Shi xx
So after the op, there will be a pathology report. This will determine what cancer it is, and any additional treatment.
I wore leg warmers on my arms for radiotherapy…its cold in there. Apply your cream ( i had loads of aveeno and aloe for the itching. I still moisturise and massage the scar and exercise) now 1 year +. As soon as your out of radiotherapy when you change, but no cream or deodorant beforehand.
Be kind to yourself, you will have good and bad days. Exercise and diet is important, and so is your mental health, come here for support if you need.
When you start to heal, ask when you can start to massage, very gently. Apply some gentle pressure on the scar tissue this will help it soften. And also ask how to prevent any lymphodema.
Good to follow Liz o’riordan (she has a great book) and rad chat.
Just wondering how you are getting on , Im about to start a journey similar to yours so Im very interested in how you are and if you can offer any advice . Im not having my surgery for a couple of weeks at my own request but will be starting radiotherapy at some point. Thank you xx
