Hi all, I had a call back letter after a routine mammogram 2 weeks ago. Went Thursday morning & had ultrasound & doctor said she was 95% certain it’s cancer. Then consultant came in & looked at screen & said it is cancer & you need surgery. It’s on right breast & only 1 cm in size (although from what I’ve read size is no indicator of how aggressive it might be).
They did a biopsy & I go for results on Wednesday & to meet cancer team and find out what happens next (Royal Free Hospital in London). I was wondering how they could say it’s definitely cancer before biopsy results, but with a bit of googling I found out that some cancers can diagnosed by ultrasound only.
I have MS (primary progressive) so been living with chronic illness for several years so it doesn’t seem to have come as a shock…maybe calm before storm but I feel as if I knew it was cancer as soon as I had the call back letter.
Anyway it’s early days. I see I have a lot to learn. Glad I found this forum. I use an MS forum & have always found it a great support & sure this one will be too.
So hi to you all & thanks for reading.

Hi Snow Leopard, welcome to the forum.I had the dreaded call back letter too,not nice.I think they are pretty skilled at knowing what they are looking at and unlikely they would tell you it was cancer unless they were pretty sure ,saying that they told me there are always "surprises ",they didn’t think mine was cancer but it was!!If it has been detected by routine mammogram good chance they have caught it early and very good chance of a successful outcome .If you do get diagnosed come and join us in the just diagnosed section there are a number of threads were people at different stages in treatment are supporting each other.Jill.
Hi Snow leopard
I was diagnosed early Feb, I love was called back after before offered an early scan as part of this new programme (47years old)!they told me there and then like you it was was cancer and the appointment the following week with the consultant confirmed everything and told me my treatment plan. Everything went well I had 2 tumours 8 & 11 mm, I had a lumpectomy at the beginning of March and they also took 3 nodes. It was s total success nothing had spread and nodes were clear. I’m a very ‘matter of fact, just get on with it’ person but it was very worrying. I start radio in 2 weeks and then take Tamoxifen for 10 years, funnily enough the tablets are the one bit I’m not looking forward to!
I’ve only just joined the forum, wish I had found it sooner, it’s nice to ask questions to people who’ve been there and done it.
Hope you get your answers xx
