Sorry to hear your news. I recall myself all the fears you are feeling re results, and the long waits for news. Everything takes so long and your brain screams hurry hurry hurry, but hang in there family and friends will help, lean on them

Hi Toonarmy,
Welcome from me. Though sad that you’re joining us on this journey.
Many many lovely people here, and the charity team will be along to point you to the right stuff too.
Treatment these days is bloomin’ good and most of us have a very good chance of it working, even if it’s been rude and sneaked out into nodes.
Ask anything you need to…

Hi toonarmy
I am newly diagnosed at 39. I found a lump and just had the Lumpectomy and 6 Lymph nodes removed. Get results today of the surgery to see if any spread and the next treatment. Put me on Tamoxifen for 5 years, but get free percriptions!
Stay Postitive and try not to do too much Internet Googling.

Thinking of you

Hi, I was diagnosed in June, I know it is hard, but the support of this site has really helped me cope and I am sure that it will help you too. Lots of friends out there for you.xxx

hi,

well for somebody who is not good with computers you have done well to find this site and to use it for support.

It such a shock, and I can see what a surprise it was that they could tell from the scan. But that is a sign of how advanced diagnosis and treatment is nowadays. There are so many different types of cancer, and they pick them up so early compared to even 10 years ago, they have a whole battery of treatments not all of which mean chemotherapy.

You are now in the waiting room. It is a terrible time, recovering from the shock of it all, mind racing over the possibilites and waiting, waiting, for results. There is the whole minefield of who to tell, what it means to your family, your job etc.

Take it day by day, accept all the emotional and practical support from friends and family you can get and whenevery you have question or a worry come on here and everyone will welcome you.

DONT GOOGLE. reports on there are normally out of date, or scare stories. And even as you read through the posts on here, remember not everyone has chemo, lots of us (like me) just have radiation and hormone treatment.

Hi toonarmy So sorry to hear you are going through this & know just how you are feeling this is one of the hardest parts waiting about for results, although one of your nodes was swollen it may just be that its doing its job & not necessarily mean that cancer is in there … fingers crossed. Its a goos job the screening age has gone down where you live.

Take one step at a time sweetie, dont try to think too far ahead, your head will be in a spin right now as it is call the helpline here at anytime when you need unanswered questioned that are bugging you. There is always someone here to talk to so keep posting I found BCC a lifeline especially during these times. Its great that you have a very supportive husband & family this does make a big difference, but sometimes its hard to express the desperation we feel to our loved ones as they sometimes feel its being negative or we just simply don’t want to upset them, thats where this place comes to hand & is second to none with all the wonderful ladies ready to support you & give you a shoulder to lean on.

Stick to the boards that are relevant to your situation for now Do whatever you need to to get you through this part, once you have your surgery out the way & a treatment plan in place you will start to feel more in control right now it just feels like you’ve been whisked up in a whirlwind to which your desperately trying to gling on to, IT DOES GET EASIER

sending love & hugs

Hi Toonarmy, sorry u have to join the site but welcome. Everyone on here knows exactly how u are feeling so u have definately come to the right place, the advice u get is fantastic. It’s a rollercoaster ride at the minute, i just coped by getting over one hurdle at a time. I had my op, a WLE with node sampling on monday & i feel fairly good today. The scar looks neat so my next stage is waiting for the results. Just take one step at a time & accept any help & support u are offered & i agree with the others, do not google, it’ll just scare u, stick to this site & the BCC nurses are on the end of the phone. Keep us updated, take care, love Heather x

Wendels, i hope ur results are good, thinking of u, let us know how u get on .xx

Hi all… RESULTS FORM surgery IN…
ROUND 1 - DING DING…
From the LNB - NOT in lymph nodes, no spread from left breast - GOOD NEWS - I think
But WLE - tumour removed had cancer on 3 of the 6 margins,so go again for 2nd lumpectomy to remove more breast and the nipple has to go! then wait again for results.

ROUND 2 DING DING… Either - Rads or whole breast off and chemo depending on the margins.

I am feeling slightly better it hasn’t spread beyond the left breast. There is reconstruction down the line. A LONG PROCESS of messing about in and out of hospital / doctors.

Just want to say - Its great to have others in similar situations to talk to virtually as it is easy to be ‘me’ tending to find those who have never gone through it get easily upset, want to hug or stroke me or just don’t know how to be with me. I have to keep telling them it is still ME!
Lots of Love
Wendy xx

Hi Wendy
I’m sort of where you are, second op still had messy margin so now have to decide whether to have re-excision and radio or mastectomy. ( I have to have chemo anyway as I had IDC as well as DCIS in the margin)I wish you all good luck, let us know how you get on
Jane

Hi toonarmy

Could be completely wrong here, but judging by your user name I was wondering if you are from the north east? If you are there is a thread called hello anyone from the north east? If you look in the in your area section. There are lots of us and we meet regularly. Debx

Hi Jane,
What did you opt for? I thought… Have 2nd surgery and then go for ALL OFF. Hoping next surgery is end of August as I go on holiday 4th August and I am going to spend the 2 weeks in Greece with my husband and 2 children and NOT think of the Cancer for this time… well try.

Hi Toonarmy,

You’re not on your own! Just diagnosed, pre-op 20th, op 27th … haven’t a clue what to expect!!

Ax

hi annik

gosh you must be in a whirl if your op is in 9 days. The pre-op is an interview with a nurse, where they get all your medical history, take a blood test, a swab for that horrid hospital super bug and give you special wipes to clean yourself before you go to surgery to make sure you are clean and dont bring any nasty bugs in with you.

Have you got a breast nurse?? mine had a session with me after the pre op to go through everything. Do you know anything about your nodes?? are you having a sential node biopsy. Sorry if this is all gibberish.

anyway one thing you might want to do is ring the helpline, they are brilliant at explaining proceedures and results and anything you are worried about.

buy yourself a good quality sports bra with seperate cups, with room to let the back out. It will make you so much more comfortable after the op.

if you have any more questions, come back on here and start a different topic, everyone is more than willing to help

Hello Toonarmy
Sorry you have to join us.

I was just dx in June this year, found the lump, had the mammogram and ultra scan and they found one in the other, had core biopsy and only the original lump is cancer. Have had a CT scan (waiting for results) and last Wednesday had a Lymph Node Biopsy (again waiting for results)
Like you the waiting seems to be forever. I now have an date for my op (29th July)

You will have up and down days, but its good that you have a supportive family there.

Take care
Juli x

Thanks for the advice Old and Lumpy! Yes, I’ve got all the support etc in place and I’m having the sentinel node biopsy when I have my wle (get me with the lingo!). No doubt I will get more info etc at the pre-op on Weds. It certainly is a whirlwind at the mo! I got married on June 4th, went to my GP on 4th July and now waiting for the op.

To say it’s mind blowing is an understatement!! I’m working this week apart from my day to visit the hospital, which is keeping my mind busy but have come home in tears as I’ve got time to think driving home - not good!

Thanks again for the sports bra tip - I’d already got non-wired bras in, so will treat myself to some more!!

hi all

first of all thanks for all your messages of support and love.i saw consultant yesterday. on 17 aug im having wle to my left breast said tumour is 10mm and that im lucky it was caught early through the screening as the age limit had just changed to 47 in my area.i think someone up there is watching out for me. sentinal node biopsy left arm and abornormal cells removed from my rightbreast he is sure its not cancerous.im also to have rads for 4 weeks he also said 14 days after my op i get results of wle an node biopsy.
thanks again for all the messages of support and im so glad that i joined the forum.i think the early screening should be rolled out country wide does anyone no if this is going to happen.

hi toonarmy.

hopefully things feel a bit better now that things are happening. Still a bit of an anxious time, waiting for the op and the results of that, but for me it was much better than those first few weeks.

Did you see my comment above about a good sports bra with divided cups? Also i printed of the BCC exercises that you do post op. I did them for two weeks before so i could see how far i could stretch and have something to aim for afterwards. I am sure that these exercises toned myy muscles up, because I got full range of movement very soon after my op. I am 64 and do not normally exercies.

All the very best for your op. Everbody is still here with advice or a sympathetic ear between now and then
