Hi anyone
Its a month today that i had my first operation (mastectomy) at the RVI in newcastle. Went back in last Friday for Lymph node clearance.
Waiting to hear about chemo. Anyone out there that is having treatment in Newcastle. Would love to chat.

Hi Margaret

There is a thread with a few of us on called Anyone from the North East. I am not sure if anyone on there at the moment is being treated at the RVI,I had my babies there, but am being treated at the QE in Gateshead. Please join us on the other thread if you like- this post might bring a few others to light too. I will bump it up for you. Good luck and keep in touch. Debx

Hi Margaret
I am 38 from Newcastle and will be undergoing surgery for a mastectomy at the rvi on the 26th.
How are you since your surgery on friday?
I feel quite apprehensive for mine.

Hi Kim

Am 38 also. I live just outside Newcastle. I didn’t have a mx, I had a breast reduction mammoplasty. Do you know if you need chemo yet or are you still waiting for results?. Please feel free to join the north east thread, the ladies are very helpful. Oh are you signed up to go to the forum? I am but it is only a few days after i’ m due another chemo so don’t think I will be making it. Good luck with your operation. I found the RVI very good when I had my babies and was treated there by the neurology dept some years ago and they were first rate. It generally has a good reputation. Take care debx

Hello Kim and Margaret (and all the chaps I know!)
I had my recon in the RVI but a good few years ago - am treated at the QE Gateshead.
had bc aged 38 in 1997 and then later in 2009 aged 50.
As the others have said, a bunch of us talk and meet up when we can.
Haven’t met up for a while - maybe its time we did? or do people want to wait until after school hols - and of course I know some of you are mid-chemo
hope everyone is well
love, mon xxx

Hi All

Thanks for the messages. Yes I have to have chemo and radiotherapy after my mastectomy. I have mixed emotions about everything at the moment as I was only diagnosed 4 weeks ago and I lost my mam to breast cancer 21 years ago and that plays on my mind, but as the surgeon a lot has changed.
Has anyone else had a mastectomy?
I have seen the forum but havent signed up as of yet, is anyone going to it?
Take care everyone and keep smiling
Kim xx

Hi Kim

I think Wendy and Theresa were going to the forum, not sure about the rest. As I said it depends on where it is in my chemo cycle. As yet I have had 3 fec but am due to have tax next, which is an unknown for me.
I am sure the others will be along to answer questions about mx. I was all for having one but the surgeon talked me out of it. I am sorry to hear about your mam. Do you think your cancer is genetic? My grandmother died of bc but it was before I was born. I am not sure whether to look into testing or not. Take care debx

Hi

I had a mastectomy at the RVI (on the private ward called Bishops Ward - not sure it’s called that now though). I have since had surgery at the Freeman and The General but the care I got at the RVI was far superior to the other hospitals. My surgeon was Mr Bliss, a very nice man.

Linda

Yes me and Wendy are going to the forum and Emma and Sarah are also going… I know that the Glasgow one was meant to be brilliant and the Scottish girls who went are now all great friends…

Mon - are you going to be working full-time from Sept?

Dear madgemb,

I think this may be the forum mentioned in the above posts:

Very best wishes

Have just looked at the info for the forum and it says up to 45 yrs. So at 51 that means it rules me out. Why the age limit.

Hi madgemb,

Younger Women’s Forums are designed for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s. As most breast cancers occur in women over 50, the Forums aim to address the isolation that many younger women experience and provide specialist information on issues such as fertility.

Breast Cancer Care does offer many other services without age restrictions, here is a link to local services some of which are taking place in Newcastle over the next few months:

breastcancercare.org.uk/about-us/our-services/local-support/

I hope this is helpful, if you would like any further information about BCC’s services please do post again or contact our Helpline 0808 800 6000 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm).

Best wishes,

Hi Monica
Yes would like that. I live out at Rothbury, but would meet up anywhere. Just started to drive again after surgery. Thought the forum sounded good. Thought it might help me with problems that could arise. I have a 10yr old daughter and new partner of 2 yrs who so far both are handling it well.

Morning all

Well maybe a pre forum meeting would be nice anyway ( although might not get to the forum). I will post the the suggestion on the north east thread. Maybe when the schools go back as it will be less hectic? Have a think. Debx
