Hi guys. I had my follow up appointment yesterday and was told I have ductal cancer. I have dense breasts so I now need an mri to have a closer look at my breast.
I’m feeling like the whole thing takes so long. If the mri shows anything else then I will need more tests before treatment begins

Hi @bevy1976
Sorry you have to be here, but welcome!
You will hear repeatedly that the waiting for things is the worst part, and that’s definitely true! I was diagnosed with IDC nearly two years ago and, like you, had dense breasts and sent for an MRI. Unfortunately for me something did show up so there were more tests, delays to surgery, expert opinions sought and all kinds of things. This all took about seven weeks and was, I won’t sugarcoat it, an awful time.
I’m so sorry you are going through this now, but, with the benefit of hindsight I can look back and be grateful all that happened. The further tests and everything else meant my team had all the information needed to
provide the right plan for my particular circumstances. It felt like an eternity at the time, but looking back it was a short period in my life that meant I had the best possible outcomes. It does pass.
Hang in there, things really do seem to get easier when your treatment plan is confirmed, and everyone here will be with you as much as you want or need. x

This is absolutely the worst part I too had to have an mri due to dense breasts it did show up satellite tumours so meant mastectomy over lumpectomy so I was thankful they were being thorough with test but that didn’t make the waiting any easier, once you have a treatment plan you will feel so much better I promise xx

Sorry you find yourself here with a diagnosis. I can only echo what the previous posters have said and what everybody said to me… It really is the worst time and I think the only thing that helped me was keeping as busy as possible, staying away from Google and chatting to other ladies on here in similar situations. Although I wish none of us were going through it, it was nice to know I wasn’t alone.
I was diagnosed with IDC on 30th Oct 25 and following diagnosis also had to have an MRI and mammogram biopsy as 2 more suspicious areas popped up! 1 was a fibroadenoma and the other just normal breast tissue, at the time it was awful but now with hindsight I’m so glad they were so thorough. I had a lumpectomy on 16th December and have recovered fairly easy I was back at work 4 days later but just delegating and no lifting (the joys of being self employed
).
Sending you lots of love and just know we are all here to support you on your journey. Xx
