Newly diagnosed de novo with liver mets

Hi all,

Doing some searching, and it is making me feel even more alone. A routine MRI on my liver for a long term anomaly at the start of this year revealed more than 20 small liver mets. Various scans followed and a 2cm primary has been found in my breast (grade 3, HR+ve, HER2-ve) that has somehow spread extensively in my liver with no lymph node involvement.

Is there anyone else out there with a similar de novo liver mets diagnosis? I feel like I am the only person with such a devastating initial diagnosis, I am only 49.

Hi @rachelb1 I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, what an awful shock that must have been. I’m also sorry that you haven’t had any responses yet, I’m guessing it must be a rare diagnosis but I would like to suggest that you post in this category specific to secondary BC Supporting each other and sharing experiences - Breast Cancer Now forum where you might find more traction.

I would also like to suggest calling the nurses here on 0808 800 6000 from 9am M-S and see if the Someone Like Me programme could help. You can find out more about it here Someone Like Me | Breast Cancer Now

Sending you love and hope.

Hi @rachelb1

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have a slightly different story involving liver mets, but also spread through blood rather than lymph nodes. I was originally diagnosed in Feb 22 with early stage tnbc, no lymph node involvement. TNBC is usually aggressive, and mine was a grade 3, so I had chemo after surgery. The surgery had clear margins, my sentinel lymph node biopsy was clear. They did tell me there was vascular invasion at the tumour site. A few weeks into chemo I developed infected diverticulitis and was hospitalised. They gave me a CT scan just in case and found liver mets. I have subsequently achieved remission through treatment. Your treatment options won’t be the same as mine but I hope you can too. I don’t know how common spread through blood is, but it doesn’t seem to get much attention as a risk factor. I would not have been scanned if I hadn’t become ill. I was almost certainly de novo metastatic.
