Hello Everyone
Thank you for your all your messages in December. It really did help with my decision making process. It is all such a minefield.
I had my second attempt to get clear margins on 13th February and the surgeon rang me this morning to say no further DCIS found at all.
He is now referring me to an oncologist to discuss the next steps. This will either mean radiotherapy or possibly taking tamoxifen instead. Also to add to the mix, he is referring me to genetics as my late Mum died of breast cancer in 2004. I know little about family history as not many people left! Also I am a single woman with no children and no siblings.
I am not sure about Tamoxifen and what the side effects may be and the possibility of taking this drug was not mentioned at the first appointments - only surgery and radiotherapy. Has this happened to anyone else at all?
Thank you all again for the responses to my original shout for help!

When you see oncologist he will go through all your options and side effects of hormone blockers if you need them .
Good luck xx

Hi @cinders52
I had the same experience in 2020, with surgery and radiotherapy initially being the treatment plan. Following successful treatment i was offered tamoxifen which was being newly offered to DCIS patients in my area. I looked into taking it and spoke to various experts but decided not to go ahead with taking it.

Since this decision i developed a second instance of DCIS in my other breast and eventually after a couple of failed surgeries, underwent a double mastectomy last year with a DIEP reconstruction.

I don’t know if this helps you and no one knows if the not takjng tamoxifen would have prevented the second occurrence of the breast cancer, as being DCIS it was completely unrelated to the first occurrence.

Good luck and thrilled to here that the surgery went well. Xx
