Hi,
I am new to this site, so if this is repeated, then sorry.
I finished chemo 6 weeks ago. Then 4 weeks ago I went to Addenbrokes to get tattoo’d ready for radiotherapy. Every night since then I have woken at least once absolutely soaking. I am 62, so dont think its the menopause. Has anyone else had this and what did they do? Any suggestions would be of help.

Hi Jean, are you on Tamoxifen or any other hormone treatment? I am on tamoxifen and suffer from night sweats every night.Ithink they are reducing as I have been on Tamoxifen since March 09.Get back to me and hopefully we will have other ladies joining us soon.

Take care,

Ann

I had a mastectomy on October 7 2009 - 5 weeks ago. I am on Tamoxifen and the night-sweats are very difficult and my whole body pounds. Routinely I wake at 1am and am still awake at 4.30. It happens during the day too. Any advice please?

Hi,

I am not on tamoxifen or any other hormone treatment as yet, should start tamoxifen when I have finished my radiotherapy just before Christmas. I just feel tired all the time. I have’nt seen my doctor yet, as I thought I would see if anyone else could help me.

Thanks,
Jean.

Jean,

I did some research on this because I have terrible problems with them myself. (In my case it’s a chemo induced menopause.)

I discovered while doing the research that people who have already come through the menopause can still be affected because the chemo upsets the balance of hormones that was established post menopause. I also discovered that although it is quite common, the root causes are not well understood and there is very little advice available on how to prevent/reduce them.

Sorry, I know this isn’t very helpful but hopefully it eases any worries you had about the causes.

Hi,
I too suffer with night sweats since having tamoxafin, but I now have a new ‘best friend’ a chillow. Its a thin pillow you fill with water and put in the fridge. I really was not convinced but it really works. Its lovely when I get hot I just put my arms /legs on the cold plastic. I had mine from Amazon. But someone else just takes a frozen 'hot water bottle ’ to bed and that hepls to cool her down.
Keep smiling ladies …we really are ‘Hot stuff’ now !!!

Hiya

I’ve found that the night sweats have reduced but I still get them and also daytime sweats. My chemo finished in Oct 08 and I’ve had rads and been on Tamoxifen ever since then.
Hope you find a way to cope.

I finished chemo Nov 08 (chemo induced menopause)and had rads then tamoxifen.Driving hubby nuts as I’m awake for half the night throwing covers off, then cuddling in as I’m cold.Does anyone know how long this lasts?

Hi jean, i am same as you 6 weeks since chemo. started rads last monday. I too have hot sweats in the day and night. boiling one min freezing the next. I think mine may be chemo induced menapause as i havnt had periond since i went on tax. I read somewhere that eostregen helps control the body temp so as chemo has effected that, that is what is causing the sweats and will explain it when i go on to tamoxefen too. What i couldn’t find was any usefull info on how to cure the problem, just the obvious ways of dealing with it. Sorry i wasn’t more help but at least your not on your own with this problem. Maybe we should start a 3am club for sweaty hormonal women.
Take care everyone, luv Pauline xxx
