Nioxin to stimulate hair re-growth - anybody used?

Ladies,

Has anyone used Nioxin to help stimulate hair re-growth? I had my last chemo last week and hoping that my hair will start to grow in within a few weeks. I have been using rosemary oil to keep my scalp conditioned which has worked well but had heard about using Nioxin to encourage hair growth?

If anyone has used or heard of this, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Hi, I used minoxidil and Revita shampoo from DS lab and 7 months after fec/tax had my hair cut into chin length bob today, still with shorter layers on top but very pleased!

Thanks Tina, will check this out and hope that my hair looks as good as yours in 7 months time.

Best wishes

Hi, I also take a silica & amino acid supplement, I did check with the medics first, and (please dont laugh) massaged my head twice a day upside down, my hairdresser said it would increase blood flow to the follicles. Good Luck. x

Thanks Tina and I did laugh, but whatever works is worth a try.

What did you massage your head with - the minoxidil?

Hi Redrobin
I used Nioxin as my hairdresser (also a good friend for a long time) recommended it for stimulating hair growth or regrowth. I bought a pack that included the shampoo, conditioner and the other stuff! - possibly a treatment foam but I can’t recall now. It certainly didn’t do my hair any harm but I really don’t know if it helped. Luckily my hair grew back pretty quickly after the end of chemo and nice and thick like it had been before - not grey and curly which is what I’d heard could happen!

Thanks Nicky, good to hear from someone who has tried Nioxin. As you say, no guarantees that this works but sounds as though it didn’t do any harm.

Best wishes

I got the Nioxin from my hairdresser but I have seen it in the shop/salon ‘Shear Beauty’. I’m not sure if this a chain or just a one off shop near where I live.
The rosemary oil is probably from Neal’s Yard, Culpepper, Body Shop or any health food shop selling essential oils.
Reading back over the previous posts the Nioxin also works by stimulating the blood supply to the follicles as when you use the foam/mousse product you feel the tingling on your scalp. My hairdresser showed me before I bought it (by putting some on his arm) how the skin reddens as the blood flow increases to that area - and, no, it wasn’t an allergic reaction LOL

Donna,

I got the rosemary hair lotion from Weleda - online. Lots of sellers via Amazon. Used this during chemo to condition my scalp. My BCN had said that olive oil also works, but I found that yellowed my scalp, so preferred the rosemary.

Now that my chemo is finished, I’m hoping that my hair will start to grow and looks like Nioxon or other products will help stimulate growth so will give them a try.

Hi, I used Nioxin - I think it was called root boost - Im not at home at the moment so will check when I’m back at the weekend. I rubbed it into my bald head every day, I had also been told to brush your bald head with a baby brush to remove any dead skin and keep the folicles open. My hair came back thicker than it was before. On my hairdressers advice, I did shave the first regrowth which was fluffy and grey - its quite hard to do this as after being bald for months you just want to hang onto it!

I don’t know if it was the Nioxin or if my hair would have grown back as thick without it but I would certainly give it a go.

Hope this helps. xxx
