Nipple recon/tattoos

Hi to you all

I had my nipple reconstructed in April 2008 and then the tattoo done in Dec 08.

Have had no luck with either, as first the tattoo faded completely, and I have had it redone, which looks good, but now the nipple has gone almost flat.

I have been reading with interest the posts about the silicone nipples, and wonder why these were never mentioned to me at the hospital, as they seem a great alternative.

They have said they can do my nipple surgically again, but the silicone might be a good option I am thinking.

Did those ladies with the silicone nipples have to request them, or were they offered routinely as an alternative.

Hi Deborah

My hospital does these in the Maxillofacial Department. If your hospital doesn’t do these, you should be able to get a referral to one that does. Definately worth checking with your BCN. I had to ask about this and was not offered it routinely which is surprising as the lady in my Maxilloficial Dept said that, ‘This is a service available to ALL women who have undergone breast reconstruction and require nipple prosthesis’
