Hello Ladies
My PS suggested that for my next op, the areola/nipple reconstructon I could have this under local rather than general anaesthetic, as i’ve had alot of generals due to MX and recons over 3 years.
I don’t have much feeling in the recon site where this would take place, so I trust him when he tells me it wil be pain free. Has anybody out there had this done under local and do you have any tips/advice which you could pass on.

I think it’s pretty common to have it done under local. I’m having mine done next week. In fact, this time next week I’ll be the proud owner of 2 new nipples. Can’t wait…! So I can let you know all then, but am sure someone will come and reply to you before then.
Hi. I had nipple recon done last year under a local. It was absolutely fine. I don’t have much feeling in my new breasts anyway. I had some slight sensation during the procedure but felt no pain whatsoever. I was really pleased with the result and glad i had it done. Hope your op goes well.
Hi I had mine done 3 months ago, its a strange feeling but very exciting I talked about food all the time and all the best books I read. I have feeling in my right nipple now and slight tingle in my left which I thought would never happen. Im booked for tattooing in 2 weeks I recon thats gonna hurt but im thinking it is defo worth it, can wait to show them off lol.

I had mine done two weeks ago under local anaesthetic. It was practically painless and I had the stitches out on Monday. It really does make a difference to the appearance of the reconstructions and distracts from the scarring so I feel it was well worth it.

Can I ask what kind of nipple recon you ladies have had? I am seeing my PS on friday to discuss this. I have been told it is likely I will have skin taken from my existing nipple to make up a new one but i’m not at all keen on that. I had a LD flap immediate recon on my right side in mardh 2012 and I’m not into having yet more numbness and pain on a perfectly healthy area of my body.
If I could have a nipple made up in some other way I might consider having it done otherwise I’m not too keen

Scone - I had mine dobe today and just echoing what the others said, it was very easy and painless and there’s not a lot I’m not allowed to do for the recovery. No baths or swimming for 2 weeks, bug I can drive and carry stuff and go to the gym. Already my boobs look more like boobs rather than a scarred mound.
Fhifhi - mine were made out of a twist of skin - oragami nipples. If you google nipple reconstruction you can see pics - diagrams if you’re squeamish - or YouTube videos of the procedure if you’re braver than me!

I’ve been doing a bit more research today and found quite a lot of stuff online. I am hoping to perhaps receive a procedure that reconstructs the nipple mound but I don’t fancy having donor skin extracted from anywhere else for the areola. I can do the tattoo thing for that.
I’ve still got the symmetry thing to consider too…PS said she’d take some fat from somewhere else on my body to inject and fill places that need it. It feels a bit like Frankenstein’s monster! tee hee!
