Hi I am due to have a new nipple tattoo because my original one I had after my breast reconstruction in 2007 has now faded.
Will I need antibiotics? The reason I ask is because when I had the original one I was given antibiotics because I had had node clearance.
What precautions will I need to take afterwards?
I am nervous because I live in Shetland and I have to get a 14hr ferry to get to Aberdeen ARI to have the procedure and then return to Shetland the same day via another 14hour ferry. I am worried that I may get an infection after the procedure.
I am probably worrying too much. Any advice welcomed.
It’s understandable to feel nervous about having a new nipple tattoo, especially given the additional travelling.
Antibiotics would not be routinely given following a tattoo. It’s important to monitor for signs and symptoms of infection, such as redness, pain or swelling to the area. Your tattoo artist should be able to guide you on the aftercare, but you may find the information from The Nipple Innovation Project useful as a guide.
