Five weeks ago I had tissue removal from left breast for DCIS. The results came back that no clear margin and am booked for mastectomy within the next two weeks.
I had the dressings taken off but still have the stitches (gut) and the breast is very painful, bright red, hard and sore. I have an appointment with GP this week as I want to feel better before the operation. I have worked with all this but now found I cannot carry on. Does this sound natural that the stitch is still there?
This is a great site with lots of help - God bless everyone.
Hi Daisy
It could be - my stitches were dissolvable so I didn’t have to have them removed they just came away on their own a few weeks after surgery.
The hardness and redness could be a seroma, I had one and that’s what it felt like. Can you hear liquid sloshing around in there?
I hope your GP has some answers for you.
Gennie
Thank you Gennie. No swishing but the stitch seems to go through either side of the nipple and its thick cat gut and either end hangs out. I just want to feel a little better before the mastectomy as I am a week old granny and would love to cuddle my grandson properly before I go into hospital.
I am at the doctors tomorrow and will see what he says. Many thanks for your reply its nice to know someone else is there.
God bless.
Aww congratulations!!
Dissolvable or not the doc will probably just whip the stitch out tomorrow, you must have healed sufficiently by now. Mine was like a running stitch that obviously ran along inside the wound and had a knot outside the skin at one end - it was most satisfying when it finally dissolved enough for me to pull it away!
I think that you had a good surgeon there. Well done and thanks for comments - I feel better than someone understands. I am not talking to the family too much about this as I cant have them worrying at the moment with all else going on. After my mastectomy I will go to stay with my sister in cornwall as she looks out at fields, sheep and nature so should heal emotions calmly. Dont know how I will feel but feeling positive that I will get through this.
Thanks for your help and will sleep better.
My stitches are dissolvable but part of my wound reopened and there was the blue stitch poking through! Two knots were visable.
The nurse dug it out and things are healing again now ( on anti bios as its a bit juicy!).
Its still red but its soooo much better once the naughty stitch was cut out!
Hope Dr sorts it for you
