Recently had mastectomy and was supposed to have sentinal node biopsy. However, surgeon told me afterwards that I am one of the minority of people who have many small nodes - and they couldn’t see a sentinal node. So they took 4 auxiliary instead.
So now I’m overthinking and worrying a negative node results might not be true negative….as it wasn’t the sentinal node.
Anyone else had this?
Hi katone
To answer your question, no but then I didn’t even know sentinel nodes existed till I had an FAC. I just wanted to suggest that your surgeon would have told you if there was cause to worry or if those without a SN are more vulnerable. Plus, they only took 4 nodes to test, suggesting that the dye (?) they use did not pick out infected nodes (whereas I had a whole bunch they knew had to come out). You definitely are overthinking at a time when really you should be practising something that stops you overthinking - so you can stay focused on what is real. Our imaginations go into overdrive with all this waiting around for things to happen.
I hope you’re recovering well from your mastectomy - keep that scar flexible!! Xx
