Nob has left the building (part 2)

Hi dawnflower
For some unknown reason I couldn’t add a comment.
My appointment is on the 17th and I need to make an appointment for a pre op assessment, whatever that is.
Hope you’re all OK!

Love Chrissie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Chrissie

Good to hear from you, a pre op assessment is when you are asked about allergies, any previous surgery and your medical history. At my hospital, they also took blood and swabs for MRSA, did a peak flow test too as well as do an ECG and chest xray. As this was several weeks ago, I can’t remember what else (and I’ve had a drink since then (!) It was also an opporturnity to ask the nurse about any worries anything.

I’m fine, thanks for asking. Getting through daily radiotherapy at present.

Don’t worry about the assessment, you’ll be fine.

Keep happy and keep us entertained with Marc. Hope everything is managable for you… How’s the pile of post coming along?!

Hi Dawnflower

Thanks for the info on the pre op assessment. They have said I need to be at the hospital for 7.30 (for the op) and should be able to leave at midday, which I’m happy about. My daughter is coming to stay for a few days to help out.
Marc is fine although he talks non stop and trying to watch TV is becoming a nightmare ha ha.
Last night I had to take my daughter to the track and we don’t get home till 8, he had prepared dinner which was great.
Started on the post, well opening them anyway and I managed to get my new mid-life crisis car insured today which I’ll be collecting tonight.
Sure these pills are helping in one respect as I’m not crying and no more panic attacks, but I do feel as though I could do with being a bit sharper. Don’t seem to be able to get my arse in gear.

It’s odd but since I had the core biopsy I’ve avoided feeling the lump, pretending it’s not there I suppose, as it’s caused so much worry.
Can’t believe how much my life has changed since finding it and having to go it alone is emotionally quite daunting. Still, chipping away at problems a bit at a time should keep it manageable.
My girls are so glad Nob has gone so that helps, didn’t realise how much he scared them when he shouted at me.

When does your radiotherapy end?
Take care

Chrissie
I have been following your thread without comment, just having a chuckle. God bless you chuck

At my pre op i also had Ecg chest xray height weight peak flow bloodsand general bits to sse if i was fit for surgery.

i had op just 4 weeks ago and feel OK. Less painful than i thought at this stage. Had WLE and SLNB. out after one night. Glad to be home. Just took it easy for first week. Do the excersises they give you they DO work. Keep your arm moving as best you can but dont over do it.

Keep smiling

Love Bridie

Hi Chrissie

Good to hear from you, don’t feel you’re on your own because you’re not.

Don’t be hard on yourself, anything to do with your health takes some getting used to, let alone the aggro you’ve had with Nob, we can all raise our hands to ‘we should be sharper’.

Glad to hear the post is getting some attention, most of it can probably wait.

Even if you think you have a mountain of stuff to attend to, doing a little bit at a time is the way to tackle it and then the big pile is suddenly not so big.

When mountaineers conquer Everest, their first steps are just as important as the last ones.

My final radiotherapy blast is 7 July, so nearly half way through, just beginning to go pink.

Keep hanging in there.

Evening girls

Well I picked up my new wheels tonight. It maybe 19years old, bright red with a spoiler but I love it. Never been without a car before and it’s been some time since I drove an automatic but I flew home with the sunroof open hoping nothing would drop off. Even stopped at a car wash to get rid of the cobwebs. (Remembered to close the sunroof) ha ha. Think I should get a Mercedes key fob?

Thanks for your comments Bridie. If I didn’t chuckle at my position I’d be basket weaving by now, and I’m so glad you get to have one too.

Well I suppose it’s time to take a happy pill and head of to bed.

Hi Girls
Having my pre-op ass Thursday (over the phone) Op is on the 17th. Not really worried, think that’s down to the happy pills. Nothing seems to really faze me at the moment. I’m on 20mg and think I shall ask for that to be reduced when I next see the doc.
My friend in the states has sent me his apple laptop which I’m typing on now. Doesn’t matter about the American keyboard as I can’t type without looking anyway. ha ha
Hope you are all Ok

Hi Chrissie

Good to hear from you again, I’m surprised the assessment is not face to face.

Please don’t be in too much of a hurry to reduce your anti depressants, 20 mg is not a high dose and now you’ve been on them for a few weeks, you will be benefiting from them.

Hi Chrissie

I too am surprised to hear that the pre-op assessment is over the phone … I had ECG, chest x-ray, bloods and otehr bits and bobs done at my pre-op and these obviously needed me to be there in person. Perhaps you will get these done on the day.

Good luck with the surgery - what is your suregery date?

all that was done on the day for me too as my op was afternoon. apart from xray as I’d already had one of those that month because htey thought the pain on my ribs was most likely an infection or something like pleurisy. Turned out it was pressure from the tumor, I think, well teh pain went when the breast did anyway.

Pre-op assessments are not done over the phone. They take blood, do urine sample, test for MRSA, a swab up your nose etc. ECG the lot. The whole point is to see if your physically fit for surgery. I had mine done ten days before surgery and my mum had hers this week for surgery next week. My sister in law is a nurse, they will NOT do surgery in any circumstances until they know that you are physically fit for surgery.

*Edit* Just rung my sister in law and asked her if there is any kind of assessment they do over the phone before an operation. She said they might ask questions, but no operation will be done before the hospital can check that your healthy enough to have an anaesthetic (The ECG is done to see if your heart is strong enough). MRSA is also rife in hospitals so again they need to make sure people are not carrying it.

Chrissie, sounds like they have made a mistake and think you have had the physical checks done already, make sure you tell them as you don’t want to put yourself at risk having surgery without all the checks everybody else has had.

Hi Chrissie

Did you get your pre-op phone call? Strange way to do it but I suppose each hospital has its own protocol. They are obviously confident it works okay.

Keep us informed and don’t stop taking your happy pills - lots of people are taking them and they really do help.

Hi Liz
Just sent you a ‘Big secret’ email.
