A few weeks ago I had a new bone scan because of increased pain in my back. After the radiographer had seen the bone scan he also did a SPECT scan. This was done at a different hospital to my own as the bone scanner there is out of action at the moment.
When I was given the results I was told that my bone scan was clear, but they had found a nodule on my lung that they didn’t think was anything to worry about.I was then given an appointment for 3 months time
Today I have had a call form my BCN telling me that they have had a discussion and want me to have a further CT scan at my own hospital to check. When I asked ‘why? what are looking for’ she repied Cancer of course. She is phoning me back tomorrow hopefully with the date of the new scan.
My mind has gone into overdrive - has anyone had a nodule investigated and found it to be nothing to worry about. My original BC was DX 2 years ago and there was no sign of spread at that point although my nodes were involved and subsequently removed.
When I was first diagnosed I had a bone and CT scan (in Feb of this year). All was clear except 1 nodule, about 2mm was found on my lung. My BCN said it could be anything from old scarring and lots of people have them and not to worry. The CT scan person recommended I be rescaned in 4 months time. However when I went to see the Onc before chemo started and asked her about it, she could not see it at first as it was so small and it wasn’t included on the written report. When she had a look said she was not concerned and wouldn’t even recommend a rescan.
So it seems different docs have different opinions about them.

Hello Andie, Ive got no info or advice to give you, just my comiserations on another load of worry, you poor thing, youve only just got rid of the dreaded seroma, Im so sorry, however the girl who replied before me sounded promising in what she said so Ill think about you in church on Sunday and hope to see you posting very soon that it was a press=stud that you swallowed when you were 6 that showed on the scan. Lots of love Mags xxx
Hi Andie,
I was diagnosed Oct 2008 and had nuclear bone scan and full ct scan. They found 2 nodules on my lungs and I had to have another ct scan after chemo/rads.Dec 2009.
The second scan showed that there was no change in the nodules and had they been cancerous, they would have either shrunk or gone with the chemo or continued to grow. As they had stayed the same I was assurred that it was not anything to worry about and that it could be scarring or something related to chronic bronchitis that I had as a child.
I think that it is as Cat says up to each health authority and I was told that the decision not to rescan me this year was because both the Onc and Consultant had agreed at one of their many meetings that there was simply no need and that they are not mets.
Hope this helps to put your mind at rest a little. Good Luck

I had a similar experience, had a cough mentioned it to the BCN who arranged a xray, which showed a nodule. Had a ct scan and it turns ot to be a blood vessel wrapped around itself. I got my self into a state and was thinking the worst but all was okay. On my initial xray it wasnt there but second xray showed it.
Hard as it is try not to worry but they are just being careful.
take care

As well as the support you are receiving from your fellow forums users if you would like some additional support or just to talk through how you are feeling at the moment please remember you can give the helpline a call. The staff on the helpline are there to offer emotional support and a ‘listening ear’ so do give them a call on 0808 800 6000. The lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday and 9 to 2pm Saturday.
Just to let you know that my experience is very similar to Lynn’s. I know it is difficult, but try not to worry. If your onc is not unduly concerned, chances are it is just some sort of scarring and not cancer.
Sorry you’re having yet more worries. I had a nodule show up on my staging ct and they weren’t sure if it was bc-related or connected with my lung condition (bronchiectasis). Anyway, had ct after treatment and node was unchanged so similar story to Lynn, they believe it’s not bc-related. Haven’t been scanned this year apart from bone scan when I had shoulder pain and all appears well at the moment. I sincerely hope this nodule that’s shown up will be innocent but so worrying nevertheless. As for bcn’s remarks, she needs to brush up on her people skills…Take care, good luck with the scan and pm me or ring me anytime.
I had something similar a couple of years ago - a small nodule showed up on a scan, I was rescanned 3 months later and the nodule hadn’t changed so they said it was unlikley to be cancer-related.
I had a CT scan due to breathlessness at the end of my chemo and it showed up a 4mm nodule. I was terrified but was re scanned 3 months later and it hadnt changed so was deemed normal. They were slightly concerned i had either had pneumonia or a PE and these can both leave nodules on the lung.
Just to let you know that I had my results today and the nodule is totally innocent, benign and nothing to worry about. It appears that they were being super cautious because of the aggressive nature of my original DX(IBC)
Thank you all for taking the time to tell me your stories and to try to reassure me
