Hi,
Can anyone help me; I have been on Nolvadex D for 2 years now and cope with the side effects quite well. However for the last 2 prescriptions I have been given a generic tamoxifen and told by the pharmacist that they have stopped making Nolvadex D. Has anyone else had this problem, as I am now having awful side effects and not sure whether this info the pharmacist has given me is correct.
Hi,
I am still getting nolvadex-d and would not accept tamoxifen as it is much cheaper but they will presumably cash in the expensive one. I would just go to another chemist or tell your surgery they cannot get it.I would be upset if changed too.
Good luck
Lily
My chemist has just told me this week that Nolvadex D is coming off the market and will shortly be no longer available. I changed from tamoxifen very early on in my treatment because of its side-effects. I have been reasonably happy with Nolvadex D and do not wish to go back to tamoxifen. I will be taking this further with my GP or my oncologist - seeing oncologist in August.
I have also had Nolvadex 20 on the odd occasion. I have found it to be the same as Nolvadex D. I presume it is also coming off the market?
just picked up another 2 months of Nolvadex D, I’ve been on it since April 1st and the only real side effect I’ve experienced is horrible hot flushes preceeded by a little anxiety attack.
Has anyone heard that they’re going to be discontinued, I did ask the pharmasist but she didn’t know, I’m reluctant to change brands…think we’ve all had enough to deal with without more possible side effects to endure.
I too have had both Nolvdex D & Nolvadex 20 and had far fewer SEs than with generics.
I do know that AstraZeneca discontinued it in the US a few years ago, so possibly not surprising that they are stopping it here too. Last month my pharmacist said she wasn’t sure if she could get it so perhaps she had heard it was going to be discontinued. There isn’t anything on AstraZeneca’s web site.
I have had trouble getting Nolvadex D . Went to the sainsburys pharmacy and they said it had been stopped then went to Boots and they ordered me some. I am finding this concerning as i really dont want to change the brand as this one does work for me.

Hi,
got my latest Nolvadex-d prescription from the chemist and it was in stock. I asked my GP too and he said no problem appearing on the screen for him yet. I read that Astra Zeneca make a fortune out of this drug and some huge amount of dollars in sales, so doesn’t make sense. Hope they are just revamping it. I will be very upset if I have to change

I’ve heard that the manufacturer’s licence is about to run out which is why it’s about to disappear. I’m on it too and don’t want to switch, does anyone know if there’s another similar brand out there?
Nolvadex D will no longer be manufactured shortly. I am very upset by this - why can’t doctors prescribe you with enough tablets to complete your 5 year course? Companies should not be allowed to just stop manufacturing a drug without a process in place to supply current patients with their required course or advise of a suitable replacement!!
