Normal to get an appointment so quickly?

I am a female aged 22 and recently went to my GP complaining of a pain in my left breast. I didn’t go immediately because i thought it might be related to my period but when it was still there a week later I made an appointment. She said that it feels like a cyst and that she would would book me an appointment to go to the hospital to have it aspirated.

I hadn’t felt too worried until this point, but today I received my letter saying that my appointment is this friday (the 15th of October)…considering i went to the doctors on the 5th of October, I am worried about how soon my appointment is. Is it normal to be seen this quickly or does it indicate I should be worried about something more serious??? Please be honest!

Hi Tiny bear

Talking honestly, no its not out of the ordinary to get an appt so quick.Theres Govt guidelines about referral times and its usually within 2 weeks, so dont read too much into it.Im in Scotland and had around a 10 day wait for an appt-quite a relief when your worrying.
I was also lucky enough to be seen at a ‘one stop’ clinic, and got the results the same day.
I hope the diagnosis is a cyst and that you will get peace of mind quickly.
Many best wishes, Cathie

Hi Cathie,
Thank you so much for replying so quickly, I have calmed down slightly in the last couple of hours! Obviously I’m still quite worried but it is better to find out sooner rather than later…I just wasn’t sure how likely it would be that a doctor might say to you that they think it’s one thing but then give you a two week referral because they think it might be something else…

It makes me feel much better to be able to post on a forum such as this and get an honest answer because I don’t really feel like there’s anyone else I can talk to because my boyfriends and friends obviously don’t want me to worry, and I don’t want to panic my parents!

Hi yes you have to be seen within 2 weeeks my drs appt was 24th Feb and was seen in clinic 5th March( and felt it was still too long when you’re worrying). my mam had this and hers turned out to be a cyst it was aspirated , i unfortunately wasnt as lucky and was diagnosed 19th March . but doing well after chemo and now having Rads xx hope yours is just a cyst xxx Julie

Hiya,
Sounds right to me. My appt came through really quickly. The best thing I can say to reassure you is that everybody I saw always told me directly what they thought. There was no beating round the bush or hidden agendas with appointments they just told me straight out. They were always completely explicit. There was no way for them to know until I had a biopsy.
So don’t panic and keep posting if you’re nervous we’re all here for you.

Dear all,

My other post hasn’t appeared yet because I think it’s being checked but in the meantime all your other posts have appeared…I’d just like to say thank you all so much. It makes me feel a hundred times better to know that you all had similar experiences and that I can trust you to tell me the truth!
Best wishes to you all, Brooke xx
