What is the big cheese question?!? X
Hi Ele, a few of us have had conflicting advice on what cheeses we can and cannot eat. Some have been told that brie, feta, blue vein cheese et al should be off limits. Pregnancy diet recommended. I’ve read this but not had any official warnings from my medical team and I think a few people have been told to eat what they want. Much concern about Christmas without favourite cheese!
Mmmmm, you’ve made me hungry now! ??
Did you get an answer to the cheese question Ruth? I’m going to a cheese tasting evening tonight. I’m sure there will be plenty of hard cheeses as well, but I suspect I will be a rebel and eat what I want.
Sorry people are feeling a bit down. I’m at that odd in between stage. I’m feeling good and strong, but with fec3 on Friday I almost wish they could do it now and just get on with it. I am however making the mist if my good days. It’s just like climbing a cliff face, and then finding yourself at the bottom and having to do it all over again.
i met a friend for tea and are this morning. She s also going through chemo, so it’s lovely to meet and chat. The waiter came to us at one point to tell us the man sitting next to us had paid our bill for us. Isn’t that the sweetest thing. What a lovely gesture, and proves there is still good in this crazy old world
xx
Tough day today - feeling pretty rough Not able to get topside of the constipation and making me feel very sick. Trying new tablets given yesterday but no luck so far Food will taste better
Done some baking to keep me busy. could do it without too much concentration and still have something to show. Needed to achieve. Will take to a couple of my nurseries tomorrow as early Christmas ‘hello’.
Also went for a walk to pick up the cream Dr has given me for the leak into the soft tissue from the chemo. Painful and hoping it doesn’t get infected as it’s painful along length of vein in arm and got 2 large lumpy bits. Has anyone else got any leaks? Thankful I’m getting a line put in have to confess.
Lots of mind over matter today - have to say - warm bed sounds lovely and feel like a nap. The lack of sleep from the steroids since last week I have found hard this time - seems to have been worse.
Moan done and off to close the curtains on the damp and dark then make a nice hot drink :)

Emma, what a wonderful thing to happen. What a lovely person to do that. I think I would have probably cried.
So the cheese question: my oncologist said that, yes, unfortunately the general advice is to avoid mold-ripened cheeses like brie and camembert (weeps) but things like feta and halloumi are okay provided pasteurised milk used. She did give me a wink though and said not to get too stressed about it though and that in her experience she sees more people get sick from reheating food and take aways. Anyway, hope you have plenty of cheeses to choose from this evening Emma.
Rosie, sorry it’s your turn to have a bad day. We all seem to be taking it in turns at the moment don’t we? I have a sore arm from the chemo too and a couple of little bumps near my wrist. Mentioned it to the onc today and she told me that once I finish the FEC and move onto the T it should clear up. I am hoping they can find a different vein to put the last FEC in on Friday. Hope you start to feel better soon and well done on the cooking which is a great achievement considering how you feel.

Sorry to hear some of you are suffering, please tell your medical time so they can give you appropriate meds to combat the SEs.
Re constipation, I was given Movicol or Laxido supply each time I had chemo. It’s good stuff and works well.
Hi Rosie sorry you’re feeling rubbish. Just to cheer u up a bit. I started the weeklies 2 weeks ago & they are a walk in the park compared to FEC. You get steroids/piriton/ranitidine on the day, but no steroids before/after. I find I’m very sleepy on the day & that night, but the following day feel perfectly normal with no steroid fog. I played golf on day 2, so lots of energy. I was a bit more tired in the evenings on days 3 & 4, but fine again 5&6. No nausea. No acid reflux. No mouth ulcers. BBxx
I’m on Paclitaxel x 12. My BCN kept saying I’d be fine on the weeklies & she made the passing comment ‘you’d be the first person who wasn’t if not’, so hopefully you will have the same experience. I gather the tiredness is cumulative, so we might be a bit less energetic for the last few BUT they will be the last ones & the chemo nightmare will nearly be over by then, so I guess we can live with that. BBx
Not much to say today ladies, been at work all day again and feel ok, FEC no.3 tomorrow - bring it on!!!
sorry you’ve felt down Rosie, hope your a little better now x
Great news about the eagle Rosie :smileyvery-happy: and glad you sound a bit more chirpy than a few days ago. I’m sitting here with a hot water bottle on my left arm for the soreness although I don’t think mine is as bad as your’s - well not yet anyway.
Hope everyone else is doing okay. Good luck to Jayne who is having FEC-3 today.
xxxx
Off to FEC-3. Been so tired this week that I’m almost looking forward to the steroids to give me a boost. Remind me of that in a day or two when I’m feeling manic.
Hope everyone has a good day today. Virtual hugs to all. xxxx
Hope it goes/went ok Ruth. Is that your last FEC then? What’s next for you?
I’m day 9 after my third AC. Still feeling a bit rough and have developed an excruciatingly painful throat again. Had a monster craving for American style breakfast so just managed to get out of bed to make pancakes, bacon, fried tomatoes and blueberries with maple syrup. Delicious but slightly like swallowing razor blades ?
How’s everyone else doing today? X
Ele!!! (Shouty voice) Ugh your American breakfast has started my nausea again . Xx
Yes, last FEC for me Ele - farewell red wee, you will not be missed. Three T next. Can’t believe I’m half way already. Sorry to hear about your throat and it spoilt your nice grub. I wake up every day expecting something like this but have so far dodged that bullet.
Hope you are doing okay Jojo and the nausea subsides shortly.
Happy Friday to all. One day closer to the end of all this nonsense. xxxx
Hope all goes well peggycat. Farewell FEC !! Sorry your not feeling too good Ele. You seem to always get a bad throat around this time after chemo! Only joking about your breakfast, so hope you enjoyed it. I’m suffering with indigestion and constant hiccuping at the moment. Very scared of upcoming T x
When do you start on the T Jojo?
A week Wednesday til T x
Whoops sorry Jojo!! I seem to veer between feeling sick and everything tasting metallic to continuously craving all kinds of very specific dishes (but I won’t list them now ?)
I’m on Lansoprazole now for really painful heartburn but it’s almost like it’s moved up from chest to throat. Moan moan…sorry folks!
2 Dec will be my last one (sorry again everyone!) so I almost feel like now I can just grit my teeth and put up with (almost) anything.
Glad you’ve got another one down Ruth. Hope you feel ok over the weekend. X
And on a different subject, I was reading today about Betty Westgate who founded Breast Cancer Care. I had no idea…what an inspirational woman. Info elsewhere on this site, or read her obit here (she was 81 when she died btw).
