Perhaps “chemo is our friend” should become the thread mantra.
Right, off to bed. Sleep well all. One day closer to getting this over with. x

Jojo, don’t put up with feeling sick. I felt terrible for the first 4-5 days after my first chemo (October last year), I lost half a stone as couldn’t eat. My oncologist adjusted the drugs and gave me more antisickness meds and I felt much better for the rest of the chemo.
Don’t suffer in silence ladies x
Hi ladies. My port insertion on Monday went ok. The procedure was fine and then staff were lovely. I was very sore afterwards and have had the dressing changed twice because it was bleeding quite a bit. My neck was rather sore for a couple of days too. This has got better each day, but I’m just left with the odd sensation of the port itself under my skin. It feels like a scratchy label, but inside. Most odd. I’m hoping this gets better. My first session is tomorrow and I’m getting a little worried about the side effects. I need to get this started now so I know what it’s going to be like. I’m also undecided about the cold cap. I hate the idea and it seems an additional hassle if you lose a lot of hair anyway.
good luck to those starting today.
Emma xx
Jojo So sorry you’ve been hit so badly. Please have a look at August. I had the most awful time with my first treatment. It completely used up a lot of my resilience & I felt just like you. I got things changed for chemo 2 & I have just sailed through this one & felt completely normal by day 6 & out playing golf, living a normal life. Please don’t give up. Your best chance of getting rid of this awful thing for good, is your first chance. Be strong & feel free to PM me if you need some one to one advice. I had every SE in the book! You will have to fight to change things, but it is possible. Be strong. Big hugs. BBx
FEC for me tomorrow too at 11.00 and I will be holding on to your virtual hands very tightly I can assure you. x
Jojo, do hope you start to feel better shortly. Sending you good vibes via the medium of this forum. x
Well I’ve just got in from FEC round 1 - well not as bad as I thought, they were lovely and looked after me well. But from putting the cannula in to finishing the last drug was 1 ½ hours. I am now sat here in anticipation waiting for the first SE to hit, they recon about bedtime - how nice. good luck to the ladies starting tomorrow xxx
Did they give you some anti sickness meds beforehand Jayney? First one done, only 5 more to go! x
Yes Barry, they gave me a tablet to take before it started, then the steroids they give you also have anti sickness properties and they have given me 2 further lots of anti sickness Meds to take at home, Ondansetron and Metocloprimide, and some steroids Dexamethasone. They have said take them regularly even if you don’t feel sick as it may keep it at bay, but they also said if they are not working for you to ring the number and they will keep changing them till they find the right one for you. Nikki will be fine I’m sure. I feel much more positive with one under the belt, I know I’ve not got the side effects yet, but it’s the anticipation of not knowing what will happen xx
You’ll be fine too with plenty of meds and precautions x
Well done Jayne. Fingers crossed for you that the drugs keep the SEs under control. x
Well done Jayne.
Hope everyone is feeling much better this week.
One week on I now feel much better and hair is still in place.
Have a good weekend everyone.
hugs Glenda xx
Hope you are right Fiona. Feeling a bit jittery now and running to the loo every five minutes due to all the water I’m drinking.
Hope you have a great girly weekend.
x
It’s good you’ve got your girlie weekend in London before your first session Fiona. Annoying we have an engagement party next weekend, so I might be going by myself. Have you got all your supplies? x
I forgot about the 2-3 litres of drinking!
If it was 2-3 litres of wine Barry it might be more fun - although I wouldn’t be saying that tomorrow. x
Haha at least you wouldn’t know what’s going on! Is it that much water everyday? Or just the day before and on the day? x
Not sure Barry. Think it’s drink that much day before, on the day and a few days after to flush the drugs through more speedily. At my planning appointment yesterday the nurse seemed to suggest that drinking lots of water would be good for everything.
Fiona, it would be great if those two SEs cancellend each other out. I’ve alreay suggested to hubby that we swap our usual sides of the bed tomorrow night so I’m nearer to the door/bathroom. Hopefully it won’t be necessary.
Good luck to you starting tomorrow, cold capping is definitely worth a try. I lost 50% hair after first fec, but no more did the next 6 months. In fact it grew back and I didn’t realise!
Thinking of you ladies xxxx
What does 50% of hair loss look like? x
Good luck to everyone starting this week. I have my 3rd one this Wednesday all being well. Bloods to be done Monday then hopefully all steam ahead. The one after that is FECT. I am dreading this as I have heard its stronger with more side effects. Does anyone know??
