October 2025 chemo starters

@Mairead_49 we are about on the same calendar, I had my last chemo session yesterday  but it was stop and go, as I had a very bad cold all week and was worried about my Neutrophils level , it turns out they seem to go up more when I don’t get given the filgrastim injections … in my case the chemo would not have been cancelled but moved to next week, so no escaping unfortunately (I might have downplayed my cold symptoms, I just couldn’t face an extra week).

I am also going to have a Diep reconstruction (I am a size 6/8 but thanks to having three kids and not exactly being the sporty kind…I have just enough flab for my A/B cup and apparently my breast shape is not the best candidate for an implant, whatever that means). From memory (not much left of that), you live in London and what I found the mot useful was going to one of the Show and Tell Meeting at Future Dreams near Kings Cross, it was very imformative and being able to see, talk to and even touch someone whom has been through with it and the results was very helpful. I also asked my Plastic Surgeon to see pics of her patient before and after, as I was concerned about all the scar and that was helpful in terms of feeling I was in safe hands. I am still in some sort of denial and I am not willing to really absorb all the information about the actual operation though.

@prisci thanks for that info. I’m actually in Wiltshire. I’m waiting for the breast care team to put me in touch with someone who has had a DIEP.

When I said my memory was gone, I was not wrong :woman_facepalming:

@tessie86 Hello, how are you doing today? Hope you’re taking all your painkillers - stay ahead of it not catch up. Hope you found a comfy sleeping position. My titty kitty was a godsend after my lumpectomy and a wee heart shape pillow. Gentle hugs. :pink_heart: Karen x

Hi @lumpybyebye I didnt sleep very well last night, brain kept working and then couldnt get comfy, then figured out my cocoon at 3am with vshaped pillow behind me and a cushion either side of me. Whats a titty kitty? I have a heart shaped pillow which my mum made me.

But today I have not alot of pain, i thought i would have more pain but after the Docetaxel and injections this is nothing, but maintaining alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol for the next 5 days as nurses told me to do, whether im in pain or not. I went out for a few hours this morning to a coffee shop with a friend. Can’t believe how fine I feel, so much easier than chemo! :two_hearts:

Also wore these yesterday my surgeon appreciated them lol

@tessie86 thank you. I can’t take credit for the Shitty Titty name, as it was on some merch I saw, but I like it!

Thank you for your good wishes. I have to be at hospital for 12, and I go in for my injection at 12.30 prompts, so hopefully I will get an afternoon slot for surgery. I hope so. I don’t like being deprived of food. I usually wake up RAVENOUS and eating my body weight in tuna sandwiches and crisps! I will ask my husband to bring supplies just in case I don’t get fed in hospital.

Dreading it, but now I’m in the eye of the storm it’s a case of ‘get on with it’. Your cheerful face post-surgery is an inspiration. Thank you for posting it. xxx

@Jaygo if they’re like my hospital they were constantly asking me if I wanted to eat after the operation. I had a sandwich, crisps and yoghurt half an hour after waking and then a little later given loads of biscuits, I was also starving! Lol

Aww im glad i could help a little. I slept so much better last night and dont feel much pain at all today. Just keeping up with the pain killers but havent needed the codine they gave me. Fingers crossed will be the same for you too xxx

@Jaygo you can do this! I think you’re having the same surgery that I had, 12 days later and yesterday I went for a 5 mile walk - it was a lovely day! And as @tessie86 has said the pain isn’t too bad at all so fingers crossed it will be the same for you, I think after chemo most things don’t feel too bad even losing the shitty titty!
