October 2025 chemo starters

@loupy that is MASSIVELY reassuring. I think this bit’s the worst isn’t it? And as you say, we’ve survived months of chemo. We’re invincible! x

It really is, but when you get to the hospital the staff are so kind and compassionate. I was in such a state I had my surgeon holding one hand and my anaesthetist holding the other as they put me under!

We’re all here with you @Jaygo a wall of Mighty Women encircling you xx

Thank you @dilly and to all the brave Amazonian women who have sent love and good wishes. I will do you proud. Up the sisterhood! XXX

Best of luck @Jaygo! Xx

Thank you everyone for your kind messages and good wishes. Op went fine. I think they only took out two lymph nodes for testing, so the pain in armpit and numbness in arm is currently minimal. Feel like I have done a heavy gym workout in therms of stiffness but so far no debilitating pain.

Boob feels fine and I braved a look at the scar ind it does look proper neat and tidy. I had ‘Mis Titspatrick’ with whom I had a run in last time I had a breast cancer op, but I have to say, while her bedside manner is utterly shocking, her artistry as a breast surgeon looks second to none.

Hope everyone else is doing ok too. It was nice to feel I had my Amazonian Army in the room with me (private room as well, get me!).

Titspatrick didn’t bother to come and see me after the op because she’d gone home (cow) but my other surgeon whom I’ve seen all the way through came to say hello. I told her I loved her and called her ‘chicky baby’ so apologies might be due when I see her in a couple of weeks

I obviously think I’m hilarious when I am whacked off on the drugs, but I’m probably a right pain in the arse! XX

@Jaygo Ahhh, I was thinking about you and hoping you’d feel up to popping in! I found it really helped to keep peeping at my scar and touching the area. It helps desensitise it and also I’ve become quite fond of it which I’m hoping will help with body image as I go forward.

Keep up with the pain meds regularly even if you feel OK…I didn’t, then wondered why I crashed and burned at the end of the day!

If you are wearing a binder and it rubs/irritates your skin, I found a thin cotton vest top underneath really helped.

Well done, a massive step taken and through the other side xx

P.S. ‘chicky baby’!!

@Jaygo so pleased to see a post on here from you, glad you are doing well! Are you home now? Gosh you can see your scar already? Haha I am sure she enjoyed your loopy comments lol

So good to hear from you @Jaygo , and to hear that it went well and not feeling too painful. Often seem to be that the best surgeons are the ones most lacking in soft skills. Ah well, we can’t have everything, can we ( apparently…) Sounds like the happy drugs worked very well for you. I actually came round from anaesthetic a bit grumpy, which was disappointing. My partner, when he had his opp, was hilarious, he just loved everyone and everything!

Extra gentle hugs xx

I’m full of beans @dilly but no doubt I will crash at some point.

Yes I am keeping up on pain meds. Woke at 4am and blasted myself then. Slept well otherwise.

I haven’t got any binding on the site, just a clear plaster. It does look nice and smiley, and as far as I can tell I don’t have a dog ear, but I haven’t investigated too deeply yet. Touching to desensitise is a great tip, as is the camisole, but without a binding I may not need it…if you wore a camisole I’m thinking you could lift your arms to put it on. Hope so, the side opening tops I bought are rubbish.

Intubation has played havoc with my throat, so had to abandon crumpets and opted for a Magnum for breakfast instead. Small mercies and all that. xxx

Yeah I get a bit lovey, dovey on GA and I sing a lot. I was singing Bad Manners ‘I love you’ at the top of my voice because a machine next to me kept going ‘de duh’ No wonder I got sent home, I think they were glad to see the back of me. I then go through a period of skriking a lot, so no reruns of Bambi or Dumbo for me!!!

@Jaygo I feel quite boring, I wasnt high on meds at all. Although when I got wheeled into the ward my mum and brother were sitting there and first thing I said was “Im B+” I knew if I didnt say it straight away I would forget. Mum yesterday mentioned it, I think she was disappointed I didnt say something a little more sentimental, haha. I’ve always wondered what my blood type was lol

I think the tiredness is hitting more today though, finding it a little more difficult to get myself up. But went to the sea side yesterday for some sea air which was much needed with my dad

A perfect day for sea air. That will have blown out the cobwebs. Your dad looks lovely too. Proud papa. xxx

Flat ladies! My Knitted Knocker just arrived, and it’s a million times better and more comfortable than the NHS softie (it’s soft, for a start!). The nipple is very, er, realistic…so I think it needs a t-shirt bra, otherwise you might look a bit startled!! It came beautifully packaged in a pretty organza bag.

@Jaygo glad you are home and it sounds like you’re pretty comfortable so far. I think when you’ve gone through months of chemo, pretty much everything else is a breeze.I love the loved up comments when high on the drugs :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@Mairead_49 yes I am a happy drunk it has to be said. I have mentioned it here before but I was promising my last breast surgeon that I would have ‘Mr [surgeon name] Woz ‘ere’ on my boob. I never did and he looked a little affronted about it which I suppose isn’t entirely unreasonable.

Much as I love our wonderful surgeons, they can be a bit peacocky so a bit of levelling doesn’t do them any harm!

So glad to be home. So glad it is done. XXX

ps I dubbed the surgeon that did my op ‘Miss Titsimmons’ I shan’t have her name put on.

@Jaygo it’s so nice to hear you in such good spirits!

A magnum for breakfast sounds like an excellent idea - intubation or not

Make sure you rest and don’t overdo it.

@Jaygo Och you made me laugh. GA makes me even more nutty to the point a private dentist in Stamford refused to ever treat me again!
