October 2025 chemo starters

@Mairead_49 OMG nobody told you port fitting is surgical. That is maddening. Glad you got through it but bloody hell. Why are we kept in the dark so much about what is being done to our bodies!!! Singular bug bearer about this whole shit show. (A little sweary today)

Gentle hug hope you can find a comfy sleeping position. Keep on top of pain meds as I know from a close friend it hurts like a sod in the first few days.

To think most people when they hear cancer and chemo that our greatest worry is losing our hair! Soooooo many other things to deal with.

Rage.

@Mairead_49 thinking of you! Rest up! Xx

I don’t understand why it’s so hard for them to tell us stuff! I still don’t actually know where I’m going on Thursday, it’s either my local hospital that I’ve been going to fit everything so far or is the main one in the city. I only know the date because I chased my oncologist’s secretary, the scheduling team haven’t called me and I don’t have a letter. I’ll have to call tomorrow, I ran out of energy today and was expecting them to call me anyway

Thanks pink sisters :heartpulse: :heartbeat:

I’ve already got my pyjamas on (who am I kidding, they were on by 6om ) and got my bed ready. I’ve been sleeping downstairs for nearly 2 weeks as husband has had the flu (actually more comfy for my mastectomy side to be on the sofa rather than him), so I’m looking forward to sleeping in bed. It’s the small things hey xx

We need to start a subset group - boobies without hubbies- lol. I kicked my hubby out day 1 of Chemo. Bed is great when you can toss and turn and starfish through all the side effects.

Hmmm. When to let him back …

@lumpybyebye I reckon we tell them it’s got to be at least 3 months after chemo finishes. We’ll tell them it can affect their testosterone levels, that’ll do it

@Mairead_49 well done getting through today, hope you have a good sleep tonight. I’ve used the Neals yard pillow spray for ages to help relax to sleep (the joys of menopause). However, the tisserand one that came with the little lifts box knocks it out of the park - so will stick to that one in the future. I’m lucky at this house we have a spare room and that’s where I’ve been since surgery and will stay until after chemo and radiotherapy! The other half works full time and is a) grumpy when tired, b) a quilt hogger and c) really rubbish around vomit so seemed like a good policy - my insomniac nights don’t disturb him much and I can lie however I need to be comfortable.

@lumpybyebye and @orchid2 - I could add to the rant, but suffice to say I hear you. I’ve had to be really pushy to get them to alert oncologist to my early neuropathy ahead of treatment 3 tomorrow. Also still getting a blanket no to vit d supplement and btw still no vaccines. Great.

@loupy hope picc line fitting went well.

In good news my end - district nurses are brilliant. Measured me for compression stockings - ready to add to suzzipads tomorrow (class 1 stockings). They’ve said they’ll send me for a Doppler scan for class 2 if the stockings don’t do the trick tomorrow. I’m going to view the session as a cold body treatment tomorrow (no blanket for the rest of me - as the covered bits were where the big pains were this week) at least there will be no hot flushes for the duration - every cloud :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, my sister has knitted me the best ever twat hat - boob shaped with “fuck cancer” on it! Proper made me laugh

Love the hat @buggeringon ! And thank you for making me smile on a crap day!

PICC was interesting… the whole situation overwhelmed me I think and I couldn’t really cope, now in bed thinking tomorrow will be more of the same crap!

I’m done with this rubbish and it’s only just the beginning!

Lots of love to everyone! :two_hearts:

@loupy I hear you love. We got through it though and we are another day nearer to the end of our cancer treatment. We are all going to hold each other up through the next few months when needed. We got this xx

I may join the boobies without hubbies club too. Hubby was sent to the spare room after both surgeries. Only came back a couple of weeks ago. Then he got cold symptoms and we thought that wasnt a good idea just before chemo. That was a false alarm, just allergies, so he is back. But with chemo starting this week we are debating where to sleep. I miss sharing a bed but its comfy being able to spread out and put the light on when i can’t sleep.

I am trying not to think about chemo as the fear and panic rise whenever i do. I am dealing ok with the practical side. I have had a sort out of my bedside table and stocked it with meds, lipbalm, wipes, etc. Wrote lists, online shopping etc. I dont know how i will cope with the anxiety on the day.

Wishing everyone well xx

@loupy I was really tearful when I had my picc fitted. It makes it all a bit more real, fear building etc. but am so glad I had it done. I’ve saved myself at least 23 needles, treatment is quicker etc.
yep. So fed up of it already. This is all just temporary, it will pass.

Sending you love x

@nastynork I found the anticipation and fear was a billion times worse than the reality of my first chemo, and hopefully everything will go smoothly for you too x

The Asda adaptive joggers arrived today! On each side they have a 30cm zip that runs down the outside leg seam. I think they will work for the Phesgo injection on my thigh, and then I will be having Herceptin injections for a year after my mastectomy.
It means the nurse can access my thigh while I’m sitting down, instead of having to wriggle down my bottoms under a blanket behind an inadequate screen as happened with my first chemo lol

I did size down, as I found the hoodie very generously sized, and I dont like baggy joggers. They have a sort of very long narrow ribbon at the top of each zip, stitched at each side to the waist band as a sort of connector, I guess so you dont ‘lose’ the back half of the joggers? This may get in the way of thigh injections, so I think I might snip them off.

Hope today went ok @loupy !
TC really gave me a kicking day 5/6/7 (day 7 today) and felt super emotional yesterday, shed a lot of tears, but trying to be kinder to myself today and just break it all down to one day at a time. What a rollercoaster. Luckily have some amazing friends / family / support , although they can’t know what it’s actually like …
Hope everyone is doing well xx

Yup, days 5, 6, 7 can bite me. I’m your fellow TC, it has been brutal but we did it. Think I’m a few days ahead of you - definitely easing up on day 9. Had my PICC flushed today and had a bimble around Aldi - check me out! Exciting little things 🩷

Glad you are more you again.
We’ve got this
