@dilly destroy that fucker!
@poptart great news! I get my port removed on Monday. It’s weird as I have to go in as an inpatient at 7am and I’ll have the op sometime that morning, but when I had it inserted, it was just an outpatient appointment. Where is your port? Mine is in my arm - they used to put it in the chest but changed to the inside of the upper arm. Let me know how it goes please x
@Mairead_49 Mine is in my upper chest/neck area.
It’s an outpatient appointment and I’ve said I only want local anaesthetic and no sedation. That way I only have to stay for an hour afterwards for Obs rather than 3 hours with sedation.
I had it put in that way and it was fine, so I figure taking it out will be a bit quicker if anything.
I’ll let you know how it goes
Mine will just be local anaesthetic too thankfully
Hi hope all goes as smoothly for you. I’m sure it will x
@poptart I guess it depends on the place. I just took my top off in the room while they waited outside, and I had a big bit of paper towel to hold over my boobs. Then I said ready and they came back in and I got straight onto the machine, so didn’t have to walk anywhere. Don’t know if it will be different when the treatment proper starts. And it was very hot today ( lovely! ) so no risk of being cold!!! I had come wearing a step in bra which I just pulled down to my waist, so could have walked around wearing it if need be.
@nib32 a step in bra is such a good idea!
Most of my post surgery bras can be pulled down, so I’ll wear one of those.
My hospital gave me a loose fitting top with lots of poppers at my planning meeting that you wear from the changing room to the treatment room. On the table they just unpopular the various bits so you aren’t lying there fully naked on top.
That sounds very dignified @dilly
Yes, I was v pleasantly surprised! Afterwards I had to pop it in a named bag and then I use it for all my whole radiotherapy sessions.
@poptart yayyyyyy go de-port no more part machine ![]()
@Mairead_49 de port happy, love your hair colour.
Glow girls @dilly @tessie86 Glad rads mark up isn’t freaking you out, not so bad.
@tessie86 Initial news was unexpected but glad you’re processing it and forward thinking. Go you. ![]()

Its nearly 2am and I am ping awake with insomnia. Cross tapering long term meds to new so I can start CDK is giving me, you’ve guessed, more feckn side effects. May change name by deed poll. ![]()

@lumpybyebye an M&S picnic sounds perfect, it was such a beautiful day yesterday!
@dilly what a good idea!
@poptart hope everything goes OK today with your port removal![]()
@Mairead_49 your new do looks wonderful, so nice to feel a bit more like yourself everytime you look in the mirror. Really gets you down, so I don’t blame you having the “feckit mood” and just going for it!
@rbf how is your hair coming along? Is the little stubborn bit you mentioned now playing ball? I hope so ![]()
@nib32 MacMillian were really helpful to me when my employer said they wouldn’t be paying me SSP. Definitely give them a ring ![]()
@tessie86 I hope you are feeling a little better after the news yesterday and the cry, I’m really sorry to hear you received that news at your onco appointment yesterday. Sending a hug ![]()
I haven’t heard of so many of the drugs that keep popping up on the thread, just makes you appreciate everyone’s cancer is different and grateful there are so many options to kick its ass!
Glad radiotherapy planning sessions are going well for those who have been this week, and actual sessions.
I went to see the NHS wig lady on Tuesday and purchased another hair do! A shorter style to keep it off my shoulders and back to my original colour- chocolate brown
been looking at styles on JB Extensions but nervous about buying off line (also need to wait till I’m on full pay)
Hope everyone manages to get a bit of sun today, raises your spirits a little ![]()
I’ve just had a message from GP saying I’m eligible for Spring COVID vaccination due to weakened immune system. Not sure if I want one really, what are other people doing?
@nib32 I had that and booked for next week, not 100% sure about it though…..
@poptart thank goodness so pleased for you and glad you can have your port out today - hope it all goes ok ![]()
@nib32 I’ve just had the same. To be honest, I’m up for having it. I’m just going to check with my breast nurse tomorrow as I am going for my PCN meeting. I haven’t had any chemo since 19 Feb so can withstand the jab atm, and am going to be going into Kadcyla so any extra help is much appreciated. x
Yep same, and booked for when Radiotherapy is finished as I’ve got 40 more weeks of Kadcyla ![]()
@nib32 I had that msg too. I’m going to wait until after radiotherapy and decide then. I had one before chemo started as we were also going to to winter. I’m a bit apprehensive to have more chemicals put in.
