October 2025 chemo starters

So, I gave mine their test run the other week for cycle 1. I haven’t got a PICC line fitted so could only use on one hand as I have a cannula in my wrist. I’m on nab-paclitaxol (Abraxane).

I froze the pad in the bag they come with, and just left them in there until I got to the hospital. When they were about to start my infusion I put my compression gloves and socks, then put all the Suzzipads on and kept them on until I left the hospital. I kept the compression gloves and sock on till I went to bed. My infusion time is 30 minutes so didn’t need the loo- but guessing you will need to take them off as they might perforate if you stand on them as they defrost??

Unfortunately I’ve developed numbness, it really does come down to your physiology. My consultant has reduced my dose for next week for cycle 2.

Hope any of that is helpful. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Me too! Have been wanting a steak! (Veggie for decades) but then I am anaemic and my body knows what it wants! Luckily am getting an iron infusion on Friday, so hoping that craving goes! Also fancied a Big Mac- love the pickly stuff on them!

@buggeringon and @rbf this has really made me chuckle! I love that we have all craved this! I feel so seen! Lol
Also the big mac sauce is amazing! I wish they did it on their vegi burgers!

@nib32 ive been using my frog flipper hands and booties since #1. I wear compression socks and gloves underneath (gloves do need a bit of teeth use). It takes no time at all to pop booties on or slip off for loo. I keep the feet on throughout the entire process but slip my hand in and out of gloves but keep them on for minimum 15min intervals.
A week post #2 i have no neuropathy and my nails are grand. I do Polybalm morning / evening and cuticle oil inbetween. Currently sporting a rather nice punk brown waterbased nail varnish! I’ve also been using a freeze eyemask over my eyebrows and eyelashes during cold cap and a loreal eyelash / eyebrow serum daily.

All the cold bits are grand BUT getting my head shaved noon Friday / majority of my foo fell off in the shower today :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Might get Kim K to do a freezer merkin in her next range :man_bald:🩷 Cold cap for regrowth!

I’ve been researching how as a veggie you can boost iron - fresh mangoes are the way to go. High iron and vitamin c - which is vital for non meat iron sources to be utilised properly. Apparently ok for diabetics too. WHO knew?

I’d ask what about your iron levels next time you go for treatment- I think they wait until they get really quite low before they intervene.

Sharing as a mango or two might relieve your meat cravings in the meantime?

Can anyone help with what nail varnish I need to get or is it just a water based one?

@lumpybyebye the foo fall is going to be weird! In terms of head hair, I’ve got ahead of things a bit by getting a v short hair cut today, and I actually love it, quite to my surprise! I know it may all go anyway, but then when it grows back, won’t be so long to a cut I love!!

@nib32 the foo fall is hilarious BUT it has the same tingly, achy weird feeling as the head down below, lol. Ministry of funny walks!!!

Weirdly the only thing i don’t worry about is iron levels … I have Haemochromatosis. I iron load and have issues due to too much iron. A drop in iron would be fantastic!

Every cloud. Do you get vamped regularly? Now my sister in law is post menopausal , they take blood to reduce her levels regularly

I’ve not posted for a bit as am busy doing nothing :joy: I was a week post chemo Monday. Tried to have no sickensss tablet yesterday ( Tues) but by 9:37 felt too sick. I’m not sure why you try to stop them at all.

I’m loving the nail varnishes that have been shared here. Will treat myself to some off Amazon thank you.

Hope everyone is well and everyone who has just started / is starting chemo soon is ok. I stand by the build up was way worse than the actual still ? Not the first 24 hours for me mind  x

I bought the suzipads. They arrived this week but the spare freezing packs are coming from US and they dont arrive for a couple of weeks. I was planning to only use them for paclitaxel. Is anyone using them for EC? Mine should arrive in time for the third one. EC 2 is tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it but nowhere near as anxious as last time. I noted a few on here recommended salted pringles for nausea. I bought some and will be testing them soon.
I hope everyone is doing ok.

@buggeringon All my venesections have been stopped due to cancer. I’m not allowed to donate anymore ever, either due to treatment. I have to regularly get my liver checked because of chemo treatment. Ive a half way check up with Hepatology in a few weeks. Lots of little extras, delighted.

Is that (stopping venesections) because of chemo and increased infection risk? Or because they think your levels will drop because of treatment? You don’t need to answer if you don’t want to - I’m just naturally curious x

@buggeringon You nosey bugger, lol. Happily, as there is an iron drop due to chemo I actually benefit! My levels were just above vampire time as chemo started - the cross department feeling was leave it and let the chemo sort it! If there is an issue they’ll just take out a pint via my picc. I was symptomatic of Fe+ fatigue, joint pain etc inflammation before I started chemo. I must be losing iron as all those have gone - venesection usually does that. Bit of a bonus
