Hi All
Went to see my friend yesterday, she had a lumpectomy in 2000 and has been OK since. She lost her hubby in 2006 about the time I was diagnosed. She is the only person I personally know who has had breast cancer who has got past the 5year mark.
Any way she asked if I had the number for the bc nurse, not on me, so she said she’d make an appointment with GP. Her nipple on affected side is practically white when other one is pink, and she can ‘feel’ under her arm. I’ve said I’ll go with her if she gets referred to bc clinic. Has anybody any ideas what we can expect.
Thanks

Hi Marilyn - sorry no one has replied as yet - maybe you have also posted in ‘have I got breast cancer’ …
You don’t say what treatments your friend had - lumpectomy only ?? chemo, rads, lymph node clearance??
In my experience (with my mum) she was seen emmediately , self referred to breast clinic as an existing patient and had the same tests as previously - mammo, FNA, core biopsy, MRi - first 2 on the same day, next 2 within a week…
get yor friend there asap - this is a very abnormal thing and as she already knows, the soonest found the easiest mended!!
you are a good friend

Hi Td
Thanks for replying. It always feels better to talk to somebody.
She had lumpectomy, chemo and rads, and also has lymphodema.
She told me yesterday she’s waiting for an appointment, so it looks like it’s back to another load of appointments for her. Fingers crossed

I think tht your friend could fast track that appt just as she’s an existing patient - make sure she’s not waiting too long - every day counts. She should ring her consultants secretary if it seems to be slow - just ring the hospital and ask!
