Oh my God I now have a cataract!

Hi All

I hav ebeen for an eye test today as I thought my vision was worsening very slightly to be told by th eoptician that I have a cataract on my right eye!! SHe was very surprised by this as I am “far too young” - I am 44.

However when I told her I was on tamoxifen she said that that can cause it!! Joy of joys! SO now an urgent letter has gone to onc and GP to see what is best plan. Myabe they will switch me to arimidex as I have not had a period for 2 years since chemo and have had tamoxifen for 2 years.

Has this happened to anyone else?

WHAT THE HELL NEXT!?

Sorry to hear that you have yet another problem to deal with … it’s just so unfair that one thing just seems to get sorted and another problem pops up to bite you in the bum.

I read the side effects section of the leaflet inside my tamoxifen packet and by the end of it it sounded like I was playing russian roulette everytime I took a pill! On the sensible side I decided that I might be better taking my chances of getting some of the minor problems associated with the medication than taking my chances with another tumour.

I’ve also decided that I just need to remain positive - told myself that I will not get a 2ndary, I will not suffer side effects, I will not get hit by a bus etc … all easy to say at 11.30 on a Saturday morning but not so easy at 3am when you only woke up for a pee and an hour later you’ve convinced yourself that you will be dead and buried within a fortnight.

Alise sorry to hear about the cataract, hope you get a quick resopnse from GP and onc. with regard to what to do . Let us know how you get on. Take care Ailcex

Thank you girls for your kind words.

Alice - the post below this called Message for Shonagh is the story of what my onc has done about it - not sure I am very happy as feel that it’s all a bit dramatic!
