Oh my god my poor dog has bc now!!!

Hi All

I cant believe what has happened my female bassett hound has just been diagnosed with a mammary tumour ( bc in dogs apparently!) after we found a large lump last week.

She has got to have the lump removed and get speyed to cut off her hormones - it’s so the same as me!

My mind has now gone into overdrive because I remember reading somewhere once that dogs can carry a “Papa mammary” virus and there may be a link to bc! Now I am thinking did my dog give it to me . I know this must sound absolutely stupid but I know I read it somewhere. ANy one else read same thing??

Poor dog - at least she doesnt have to have chemo and radiotherapy but we wont know if there is spread unless another lump appears.

The thing is now it is bringing all the horror back to me as the vet keeps talking about all the details and I cant believe it has happened to my dog - it’s like black humour!

Any one know anything?

Love to all

Hi Alise

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I have found a website with details but won’t be allowed to post a link here. Have you tried searching google?

Best wishes

Mate…what isnt linked to breast cancer would probably be the easier question! At least you know what the vet is talking about…could even point them in the right direction where treatment is concerned! Try not to stress chick, look after yourself and your dog

Hi Alise

As an animal lover and BC sufferer I can’t believe the irony and sadness of that. I do hope both you and your lovely dog will get through it. All the best to you and her.

Sorry to hear about your dog, while ours is fine our cat has got cancer, he had an op about 5 months ago and it was found to have spread so its still there. When the vet explained like you I knew exactly what he was talking about without him having to go into too much detail.

Buttons (cats name) is still hanging in there, we nearly let him go a couple of times but he rallied round, we have to put his food in a processor before he can eat it, but we feel hes not ready to go yet.

Hope after treatment your dog is well and you have lots more time together.

Best wishes.
