Oh the waiting....

I am waiting for the results of my core biopsy… I will receive the results on Monday.

Since the biopsy on Friday, my lump feels bigger, aching in my upper arm, has anyone else had this happen to them?

Hi sommer

Yes that happened to me it felt like it had doubled in size and was quite uncomfortable and painful
So yes it’s normal
Good luck with your results Hun keep us posted on how you get on

Hi Alison,

Phew, that’s put my mind at rest! Thank you.

Results are in! Confirmed it is a fibroadenoma…

Feel quite relieved, have requested a removal, I don’t feel comfortable with it in. Too much anxiety around leaving it in!

But good news all in all.

Great news sommer

Hope you can get our surgery soon

lizzy c

Hi Lizzy

Thank you, I just feel it is for the best, and given my age to avoid any further issues, it is advisable.

I am looking at cryoblastation, that looks like the least invasive. I will ask about it, although am not sure it is available at where I go!

hi sommer 34

i agree all the way

have they given you a date for op offered any op choices
i had the lumpectomy in at 1330 and home in time for tea 2inch incision no pain to speak of. off work thurs friday back in monday healed no bother just a faint line (shame i had to have a mx 3 weeks later and i was so niceley tanned from my hols what a waste )
are you going to ask for them to do clear margins ?
lizzy

No date for operation yet, Lizzy, I have a clinic appointment on Monday, so will be listed then for removal.

Clear margins? What does that mean?

Lizzy,

I have reread your story, when you say clear margins, does that mean ask for some extra tissue to be removed surrounding the tumour?

hi sommer 34
yes might be worth asking if they do clear margins

lizzy

I still don’t understand what you mean? Clear margins means that the tumour can be seen with a dark line surrounding it on the US? Thus, that means the mass is contained and therefore no risk of any further invasions?

So when you say ask for clear margins, do I ask the consultant if they do clear margins, or if I have clear margins?

Hi Sommer

I think from your posting an another thread that you have already rung the Helpline. Why not give them another call to talk things through- they’ll be able to offer information about clear margins etc.

Take care

Hi Janet,

I think I will again, and yes they were very helpful…

Sommer if it’s an FA then they just do a lumpectomy of they do a wide local excision which they do for cancer they take away the lump and 1cm of normal tissue surrounding that incase any microscopic cancer cells are present. It’s unlikely they would do this or need to do it for an FA.

If there was any need to do a further op then they are usually quite happy to do this… Generally they would rather take less and do another op than take away tissue unnecessarily.

Think its a good idea to have a chat to the helpline too.

Take care

Thanks Lulu, I am just expecting to have a lumpectomy, and while I am not worried about that, Lizzy’s margin question made me prick my ears up…

I am a naturally curious person and this sort of thing does make me want to ask lots of questions to women who have been through it, I will call the helpline and talk it through with them…

Thanks for your sage words though.
