Evening all, I had a call from my nurse yesterday to say my oncotype results were back and they showed high risk so I will have to have chemo. I have my appointment tomorrow to find out what will happen next. Are there any questions I should be asking and also as I go on holiday for a week on Saturday it’s likely they will start the chemo as soon as I get back so I wondered if there is anything I need to get to be prepared? Any tips would be greatly appreciated xx
Hi Runnerbean. I’ve posted a few threads in the past from Sept 4th when I had my first chemo. Look back to 1st day of chemo and any other by CK. Also why not join September Chemo thread on the ‘Going through Treatment’ started by SueC. It’s really helpful too. Lots of love.xx
After onc I waited 3 weeks for treatment to start so you may still be able to go on holiday.xx
Thanks CK, I will have a look at the threads and then put a list of questions together ready for tomorrow xx
Digital thermometer is a must! V pillow! Travel sickness wrist bands! Ginger drops, Ginger biscuits! Murray Mints, Wigs, Hats, Lavender Spray, Mouthwash, Coconut Oil, Diprobese Cream for Skin from GP, Imodium, Face cream, Loose fitting nightmare, Frozen Pineapple cubes, Rubber Gloves, Hand Sanitiser, Paracetomol, Ibuprofen, Books, Magazines etc etc etc
Haha Jencat nightgown!!! Well done, shows you read the posts properly!!!x
I bought those pineapple pieces in round cartons from Morrison’s 2x£3 and put them in freezer. Great for ulcers and sore mouths although I didn’t suffer first chemo.xx
I’ve seen these V pillows mentioned before, I will have to get one for watching TV and reading in bed.
Runnerbean, V pillow
Dunhelm mill £12 and Satin cover £5
Someone else said Matalan have them too £8
Always had one for watching TV in bed and need it moored now when we have those sleepless nights.x

You’ve got hugs, big pants and I’m sending you positive strength and energy for a clear mind and to not think too much ahead and concentrate on treatment which will give you a better quality of life in the future! Treatments are getting more and more advanced all the time.xxx
Jencat i am doing ok thank you x
Ali39. Are you ready and prepared for your journey to recovery?xx
I think I am CK. Ferling calm about it - which is scaring me a bit!! I notice you and cherry are not having the F bit so that might be the difference in side effects i am thinking! Anyway we will see. How are you CK? Does your daughter go tomorrow?
Yes, she gets off tomorrow morning before I have my flu jab. Ive had her home all through my diagnosis so it will be hard.
My hospital said the F doesn’t make much difference to certain diagnosis so started to stop it 6 months ago but I didn’t ask if for everyone just why I wasn’t having FEW. Regards side effects don’t worry too much and if you are prepared (I think you will be) it will be a while lot easier. We all react differently but ask about Amend an extra anti sickness drug( I keep mentioning) as that may have helped me tremendously. X
I have just took a screen shot of your must have list ? x got onco appointment Monday and am a little bit scared x
Already got v pillow digital thermometer kindle full of books and tub full of pills lol x
Hi SueW
Forgot to add a flask to take hot water up to bedroom for middle of night or to avoid boiling water each time.m need a hot drink. X
That’s a good idea for the night c I not to bad during the day as I got the one cup kettle thing that only takes 30 seconds and my beloved tassimo machine for my caramel or vanilla lattes x

You are bound to feel anxious but they are there to help you. Just ask as many questions as you can. Write them all down and also write down what they tell you as they are going along. My onc was impressed that I was writing it all down and when I got home I’m glad I wrote it down. All of it in full too! It kind of helps to prepare you. Have you bought a satin/silk night cap or pillow case as that helps your scalp too when hair growing back and to stop any static, like when a baby has a bald patch?xx
Yep got a satin cap and silk pillow case will be sliding out if bed x
