One breast suddenly bigger

Hi!

I’m not really one to ask for help but I guess here goes…

I have very irregular periods and had my first one in about 12 months just a few weeks ago. I’m not sure if this is related but during it, I had the sudden realization that one of my breasts was suddenly bigger. I lay on my stomach when reading in bed and noticed it there too. I feel like I’m imagining it but I don’t think I am, something definitely feels strange.

It feels almost a cup size bigger, it’s noticible. All my life they have been even but when I look down my shirt is definitely showing the difference. My left breast doesn’t fit in my hand anymore like my right one and it just feels… I don’t know the word but denser? It feels heavy and bigger. Aside from the size I have absolutely no other symptoms. I am not on birth control, I don’t smoke or drink and I can’t think of any other reason for this change.

I looked online a lot and immflamatory breast cancer keeps popping up. Maybe I don’t have it but I want to find out and be absolutely sure because something is definitely wrong. I am only 26 so I have a feeling my Dr will just say it’s unlikely and not give me any scans. I have an appointment for tomorrow but I’m just worried and afraid and I know that I need an MRI not a mammogram. Will they even let me have an MRI? Can I trust the results?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions :frowning:

Hi, this happened to me in October (age 41), breast got bigger and heavier so much so I couldn’t bear taking off bra. It turned out to be multiple cysts and a benign lump. Thankfully there are lots of different conditions with different symptoms (some very similar) so unfortunately its a waiting game til you know. Hope things go well at your appointment. I’m not sure what tests you’ll be recommended but ultrasound showed up all my cysts and it was painless, quick and easy. Good luck.

Hey Linko,

I’m going through something similar just now, one breast noticeably larger than the other but I’ve also got a lump. I went to my GP who referred me to the breast clinic, and now I’ve to have an ultrasound on Friday to see what’s going on. I’m 28, and my GP and doctor I seen at breast clinic said because of my age they wouldn’t do a mammogram but from what I’ve read on here ultrasounds seem more reliable anyway.

Good Luck with your GP, keep us posted x
