One huge boob and one little one - bras?

Hi all,

I am due to have a single mastectomy in 2 weeks time with immediate reconstruction with an implant. I will be going from a 32H to a 32C as I’ve always hated my huge boobs. The only problem is they won’t do surgery on my other breast and reduce that at the moment as there is an indeterminate nodule they want another mri on in 6 months time. My question is, how on earth will this work with bras? I get I can get something to put in the smaller ones cup to fill it and wear the H size bra however I’m aware with an implant I shouldn’t wear an underwired bra but will 100% need an underwire for the big boob? Where do I even start with this :woman_facepalming:t2:

Hi @butterflywishes40
So hard when you have different size boobs , you can get a partial prosthesis which you can use with post op bras some give you a lift without using under wire which isn’t recommended , speak to your breast care nurse for some advice .Good luck xx

The post surgery bras (the one they gave me at the hospital) are very supportive and seem to hold everything in well.

M&S do some good post surgery bras with thick waitsbands and a pocket to put a prothesis if you need, which should be helpful. Also remember you can tighten one strap tighter to hoist everything up. Xxx

Wow, your hospital gave you bras?
I had to buy my own. I ended up with a couple from Primark (they do post surgery ones now) and they worked great.

My hospital did give me a ‘softie’, a stuffed thing you put in your bra.
They asked what size I needed and I said my old size, forgetting after I’d had a lumpectomy instead of mastectomy, so it made my smaller boob massive (my chemo brain didn’t think to ask for only enough to even them out). Luckily you can take stuffing out of it to make them fit more accurately.
I find the softie always shifts in my bra and I usually up with it in my cleavage instead of around the boob. I’ve resorted to using some of the stuffing I removed from it to pad my old bras than had pockets for extra stuffing. Works pretty well.

I was obviously very lucky :see_no_evil::joy:. They were great though as they did up with links down the front. So much easier post surgery!

It’s fabulous, I only wish EVERY hospital had the same awesome perks.

The bras I got did up at the back with clasps and at the front with a zip. There are pockets for fake pads and probably drains too (my hospital gave me a massive hard plastic one so I couldn’t fit it, I was told they usually use a small soft plastic one that is emptied daily, whereas mine was so big it never needed to be emptied til it was removed, which was gross ).

Oh god :joy: how did you manage to sleep with that?!? I had so much joy seeing the liquid go down each day :see_no_evil:!

I didn’t sleep well til it was gone. Everyone (medical staff I came into contact with) kept saying “Why did they use that kind of bottle?” and I had to reply “Don’t ask me, your colleagues did it!”
When I get my reduction on the other side I’m going to ask for a soft bottle beforehand.

 I got boob covers from truelife and evenly bra balancers, worked a treat as fitted over entire boos (I had a therapeutic mammo pasty) so was left with a large boob and smaller boob, worth looking into and bra wise I just used a normal soft bra, do look at Primark now they do a big range now :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Hi

I’ve had a mastectomy 3 weeks ago
I was a 36dd bust but the implant has uplifted my breast.can tell one breast bigger than the other though you cant tell when wearing a support bra.i think this is a common problem when having a single mastectomy.will try to get used to it.

My M+S post- surgery bras have been amazing for me and I’m still wearing them 3 years down the line. Before surgery all my bras were underwired but the straps never stayed on my shoulders and I now realize they were not giving me good support. I now only have one underwired vra.

Their Flexi Fit crop tops are not strictly for post surgery but they also have pockets and little removable pads that I now use to put into the post - surgery bras ( most useful as one boob was always a bit smaller than the other and that’s the one I had done so it’s now smaller still. You can step into them and pull them up and wear one on top of another if you need more support - particularly comfy for sleeping in. Not sure if you would have enough support for in these for an H cup though. . Anita bras available online at eloise.com or stockist throughout the country are good as well . @sez One of their fitters came to our local support group and quite a few of us ended up coming away with a free bra or prosthesis that she had fitted personally to us but our hospital didn’t give them out either . Xx

I have one 36DD and the other probably a B cup now.
I don’t care anymore if they’re lopsided, I try to wear black on top and it doesn’t really show.

I had 32H bust also and am now wearing 34D/E. I was fortunate to have both breast reduced in one procedure. I find the M£S post op bras with thick lace bottom really good and don’t forget to asks them to remove the tax before paying. The pockets are great and you can also fill them up with extra pads which I bought off amazon and do a great job.
