A friend of mine has found a lump and she won´t do anything about it . At the moment , she is living in Spain , but without the benefit of the health system here .
She is moving back to Newcastle in october , her husband is frantic . Is there a hospital in that area , where she could go with her fears , and get a mamagram straight away ? I know i have read of centres where you can do everything in one day , and come away with a result .
I´m trying to help , but can do so little , except advise her to get checked straight away .

Hi
Am not sure of anywhere she could go without a gp referral unless it was private. The Queen Elizabeth hospital Gateshead is just outside Newcastle . They do a one stop diagnosis on the day - exam, mammo, ultra sound. biopsy- diagnosis- three days later core biopsy. it was very quick. However she would prob still need the gp part first. I don’t know about other places actually in Newcastle. ( hope you are talking about on Tyne not under Lyme ) I hope your friend gets sorted soon. Debx
Many thanks I will pass this on to her husband , along with BCC telephone numbers . I think they still have kept their old GP as they never registerred here.

Hello, there’s also the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), in Newcastle, which is where the Breast Assessment Clinic and Breast Clinic (ongoing) are for Newcastle. And the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, which has the new Northern Cancer Care Centre (NCCC), which is where I go for regular treatment. Here’s a link to the Newcastle hospitals website - newcastle-hospitals.org.uk/index.aspx
However, I went initially to my GP with my lump and was referred by him to the RVI. Agree with Deb, not sure if your friend could self-refer directly to a hospital.
Wishing your friend all the best.

Thank you , I spoke to her husband this morning and I´ve passed it all on . She is still refusing to do anything about the lump .They do still have their old GP , all i could say was to suggest he contact her , explain the situation and hope that she will refer , so that somehow they can get Sue to go for assessment .Terrible situation , he´s in a hell of a state , I feel so sorry for them both , lovely people .
