One week in & amazed at the reactions & stupid things that people have said!

Hi claspe. It sounds like they are moving fast . I had invasive ductal carcinoma I’m the left breast May 2024. Your surgeon will talk to you about your options . They will tell you that you can have bi lateral surgery mastectomy or a lumpectomy . Your doctor will advise you but it will be your choice . I had a lumpectomy and radiation . Im currently taking the letrozole pill for 5 years . They have a test now that you take after your tumor is removed (oncotype test l… this test tells you the likely hood of the cancer returning . They study your tumor which gives them a score . Praying for you . None of this is easy but its a good feeling to have people
Around you that care .

I have been researching the synthetic hormones offeres for women with hormone positive breast cancer and the fact the it inhibits your natural estrogen production which in itself seems to have a greater negative affect of your bodily systems.

I won’t be taking any inhibitors to my natural hormone production!!!

Its my body and I feel that i shouls have a choice as to how I manage it, i wish you well blessed2 and if you feel so crappy on your hormone inhibitor you could do some research and get what you need to feel better xxx

I totally agree with you ! It’s your body and you should do what you feel is best for you. My breast cancer is also estrogen positive . I am blessed to have family in the medical field .My doctor was wonderful as far as explaining all my options . My breast cancer was at 12:00 on my left side . My radiologist/oncologist decided to administer the radiation in a prone position to limit the exposure to my heart and lungs since your heart is on the left side . Mine was 14mm. Praying for you and happy your appointment is soon so you can get all the answers you need .

Your surgeon will be experience I’m sure in breast cancer surgery . He will be able to give you all the facts. My surgeon said the study shows… then he said we have a study we follow that you can’t Google to get it . It’s a medical sight or app that doctors have access to. He told me all the pros and cons but said I could take a few days to decide what I wanted to do . I said I want to have surgery to remove the cancer as soon as possible . Surgery is the first step to being cancer free. Praying for you . You’ve got this ! Breast cancer is curable !You are not alone as I can tell on this forum because everyone has their journey . We all know what it’s like to have breast cancer . We all care . I care !

Hi blessed2
Thanks for reaching out, you’re right, no one deserves cancer. And you hope that the people in your life will dig deep and respond with compassion and kindness. Unfortunately, the person in question - an older sibling, has a negative mindset, is very bigoted, and said something horrible things that others in my family were shocked about, and but did speak up for me. I waited a couple of weeks and wrote her a letter and told her to stop speculating about the cause of my cancer (my oncologist put it down to bad luck) and stated her comments were hurtful, unhelpful and ignorant. We haven’t been in communication since, and I don’t want her in my life, and I definitely don’t miss her. I hope all is well with you. All the best, flowersandbees

Hey Flowersandbees, Im
So sorry you are going through negativity but thankful you wrote a letter to express yourself and feelings . I am at 1/12 years since my first diagnosis of breast cancer . I had a lumpectomy , radiation and now I am on letrozole . I am not crazy about it but my doctors are very informative why I need to take it . What is your next step in your health. You have Got this ! My best friends sister had a reoccurrence with breast cancer and now she is 20 years out from that with no more cancer . Your story touched me and I’m pulling for you!:heart:

Double mastectomy with lymph node removal is booked for 17th Dec what a relief but i feel very strange now like im talking about someone else its surreal :disappointed:

I think how you are feeling is like many of us. A bit of an out of body experience, not really thinking it is us they are talking about. Sometimes it hits home more once your treatment is finished. I personally found this and had two ‘lots’ of counselling. It helped a bit. But other things have come up and I’m due to start more with a psychologist this week.

Take care
