Oophorectomy - recovery time?

Hello

I have got my appointment to have my bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in the middle of May. It will be done laparoscopically.

I would like to hear your experiences about how long you took to recover. I am back at work after 2 BCs and need to tell my employer how long I will be away. The medical team say 2 weeks - what was your experience?

Thanks,

Well it totally depend upon you will power. how soon you recover from this the sooner you will be able to join your office.

Hi
I was back to normal in a week
Rehana

2 weeks is more than enough if there are no complications. i was driving after 3 days.

I was off work a week and 1/2 then went on holiday for a week swimming and walking…

Felt great but I think I did too much. My innards all got in a muddle following the op which meant I was back in hospital a month later with an obstruction and twisted bowl and then I was off 2 more weeks.

Hope everything goes well.

I’m in a physically active job and the hospital insisted on signing me off for 2 weeks. In the event, I felt a bit of a fraud as I felt absolutely fine within a day or two. Do hope your recovery is just as straightforward but of course we are all different and heal after surgery and recover from anaesthetics at differing rates so please give yourself time to get better properly.

BTW - I don’t understand what will power has to do with it and we don’t all work in an office.

Best of luck, it took me a week to feel ‘back to normal.’ The little wounds healed very quickly, and I had the stitches taken out after a week (they were disolvable- but I was told most women like to have them removed). One of my wounds then opened, so I wish I’d just left them as they were, but it was steri-stripped, and was fine. Try not to do any heavy lifting for a week or two, was the advice offered to me!
