I am having my lumpectomy and poss lymph removal as tests so far inconclusive so consultant says he will send off biopsy when im out and take it from there, so confused first i was told radiotheraphy after and then poss chemo but maybe tablets herceptin/other now it seems more likely chemo after op recovery and then rads/drugs, my brain is over loaded i think its time to chillax and go with the flow im on overload here !!! did anyone else feel the same and get conflicting treatment… i broke down at the mention of chemo i feel like they give me a tiny bit of good news with one hand then BAM … I am soooo grateful to be being treated so quickly i really am my emotions are just all over the place… rant over i couldnt thank the nursing team more if i wanted as i say just on overload at the moment… love and luck to all who are reading posts and going through this xx
Hello Lottie,
The problem is that until your team know what type of cancer you have and whether you have affected lymph nodes, they can’t tell you what your treatment path will be. So for example, if you have lymph node involvement, you may well have chemo, if you have a WLE or don’t get clean margins, you’ll probably need rads, if your cancer is ER+, you’ll get hormone therapy, and if it’s HER-2 positive, you’ll get Herceptin. It’s another wait, I’m afraid, but once the op is done and they know exactly what they’re dealing with, all this will become a lot clearer. Honest!
Hang in there, Angelfalls xx
Lottie
Angelfalls is right …they wont decide on the treatment until the diagnosis from the op.
I had my sentinel node tested while i was ‘out’ ( ithink i was actually out out rather than just out)and it tested positive so i woke up to find i had been given a full axillary clearance …however none of the other 15 were positive and I am only getting rads and no chemo. I still dont know what hormone meds i will be on…
just hang in there …

I wish I had the test whilst under for my lumpectomy as they were positive so will have a FNC when i have my MX. I think that is so much better to know at that first point as the waiting is horrid.
Lottie - that waiting and not knowing is really hard I know, its probably the worst part of all this - once they know exactly what pathology your lump reveals they will have you on a treatment plan and it will all fall into place. The fear of the unknown is awful but honestly most of us on here have been where you are now and can empathise with you…hang in there hun
I had a lumpectomy and node biopsy back in October. Didn’t get clear margins as they found a further tumour - so I was pushed straight to chemo and have just had my 6th chemo of 8, I will be done with chemo in 6 weeks from now - then I will have an MX. After that Rads - then 12 months from that, a reconstruction…if thats what I want. I guess once Chemo is over they will start me on Tamoxifen as both tumours were ER++

Thank you ladies,
I think im just on overload at the moment, 4 weeks ago life was sooo simple just sailing along taking everything and prob everyone for granted… well this sure puts things into perspective for me… anyway im not going to stress myself out anymore until the op is over on monday and the results are back. its all now only just starting to hit me that i really do have bc and it wasnt all just a really bad dream… so onwards and upwards and take one step at a time from now, thanks for all your help in my moment of panic, will keep you posted as treatment progress’s pleeease keep in touch your keeping me sane x big virtual hugs and good vibes to all
I know what you mean about it seeming like a bad dream. My mx was April 1st and I was really hoping someone was going to say “April fool!” and send me home…!!!
((((Hugs)))), Angelfalls xx
Hello Lottie
Angel falls hit the nail on the head when she said once the ops done they’ll know more. It’s a shock to everyone so don’t feel alarmed or worried about ranting here, thats what we all do now and again. You have been lucky and treated quickly so you have avoided lots of the waiting around. The op isn’t as bad as you imagine ( and your imagination will at times go into overdrive). I has a WLE and a boob lift with my nodes checked at the same time. That was 5 weeks ago, and everything has healed well with no real pain. The nodes are clear so now have to have chemo but that’s because of other factors taken into account like age, size of lump, grade and type of cancer.
It’s easy to say but take each step at a time that’s what most if us do. I wax also ER+ so been on Tamoxufen pre op then off then on now off for chemo time then on again post chemo. I just think about the time when it’ll all be ok. Talk to people, laugh a lot and post here to rant.
Thinking of you on Monday
Love Carolyn xx
