Hi diarrhoea is very common - the constipation comes from the anti-emetic drugs and some of us suffer more than others - think in general the chemo gives you diarrhoea though

Hi there
I have had three fec, each time i have had constipation from the anti sickness drug…haven’t had the opposite so far, but i think you can get either on chemo!
Take care.

I had constipation with fec, due to the ondansetron, then had diarrhoea with first tax. I’ve been fine with the 2nd tho. So far!

Hi
I had the same reaction as you, have you got immodium, it really helps, tell your GP or Oncologist. It made me feel dreadful, it lasts for a few days, drink plenty of water too, you need to keep hydrarted. It will come to an end, just horrid going through it all.
My throat was really sore too, it’s all these things they don’t tell you about at your appointments.
Keep going hun you will be fine.

I had diarrhoea too and my bottom was incredibly sore for ages-almost burning.I found immodium was invaluable for the inside and Sudacrem for the out side.Poor you-it does stop eventually.

I too suffered dreadful diarrhoea when on Epi, having to be really careful what I ate and drank. Fruit juice was a definite no-no. Also had the sore throat (like swallowing razor blades). Although the ‘runs’ lasted the whole time for each cycle, the sore throat was only on the 1st.
Not much consolation I know, but it does pass and looking back (it’s over a year since I finished chemo)I find it hard to imagine - a bit like labour!
Take care

I suffered too on FEC…nasty! Imodium is good and sudacrem.

Hi,
I managed to have quick drying cement constipation on epi and then followed it with the bombay trots on cmf! I definitely think the runs are harder to deal with as you feel more vulnerable when out. I found that I could not tolerate any fruit or veg at all while on cmf. Even one cherry tomato would have me in the loo for 2 days. I had to cut them out completely. For the first few vulnerable days after each dose,I only ate pasta, white meat, white fish, white bread, potato and plain biscuits and plain sponge. I also became lactose intolerant as the weeks went on but again just for the few days after each dose. You have my greatest sympathy and I would encourage you to control it through food as well as immodium if you can. One dark dark day I went 14 times and was convinced I had sat on a bee!!Spent hours studying the tile grout!!
Wishing you luck. Keep a diary so you know when your dodgy days are to be careful

Would the frequent trips to the loo alos be anxiety? I found I was usually a bit constipated on ct but stawberries were a good natural remedy. It you are running to the loo then bananas and sweet things can be binding. And Immodium is good yes and I still take one if going out for the evening as a precaution due to anxiety still. For sore areas Germoline is very good and actually piles cream is very healing - I asked my chemist when the going got a bit tender and she said about the healing of piles, makes sense I suppose.Just beware of taking too much Immodium because I think your insides can get used to it. The instants melt ones are handy but not cheap so try and find a brand and I think boots do their own?

Hi, I too suffered dreadful constipation for first 3 or 4 days, then it changed to the runs.
I was taking Senna tablets to unbind me, then taking Loperamide (which you should be able to get from chemo suite)to counteract it.
Makes you feel miserable doesn’t it. As others have said, make a note of when these symptoms appear and dissapear and it helps you cope with them.
Hope you feel well otherwise.

I had terrible constipation with FEC, tried everything to shift it!! then when on TAX had the opposite!! Was told that it was fine to take Immodium and it helped!!
We all seem to suffer one way or the other, good luck to you!
