Hi. I am just coming up to a year diagnosed in June with DCIS stage 2 BC in my Right. Had 6 months of intense chemo (very poorly and in and out of hospital) then had a mastectomy in January this year. Got super cocky after surgery thinking that I had finished and could try to get back to my normal life but how wrong I was. Cancer decided to fight the chemo so there was still 3 tumours, albeit smaller, in my breast when it was biopsied, so now been put on more chemo of 14 cycles of Kadcyla. It’s nowhere near as bad as my first lot but still have to have bloods and go get it intravenously. Had great support from family and friends but sometimes I just want to speak to someone who understands how I feel :slightly_frowning_face:

Hello

What an awful situation you find yourself in and i can imagine you are feeling a whole set of different emotions at the moment.

My experience was DCIS stage 0 I think they called it and treatment was a full mastectomy so quite different to the progression you’ve had.

I’m hoping someone with a similar experience will comment and share with you soon.

In the meantime welcome to the forum where you’ll meet the most amazing strong supportive women who as you say know what it’s really like.

Take care xx

Hi @wincywitch

So sorry you are having to turn around and go through more chemo, just when you thought you were through with treatment.

I felt devastated when I got a second primary, just after getting the “all clear” at 11 years. That horrible feeling of starting all over again. Mind you I found the second diagnosis easier to deal with somehow. I guess not having the added shock of discovering you have cancer. My goodness though, in your situation you haven’t even had a break to recover before starting chemo again. It is one of the advantages of having your chemo prior to surgery, that they know if the chemo was right for your tumour and can add in a different agent to give you the very best chance of a good outcome. (At least from your post I’m thinking this is your situation)

Don’t forget the other services BCN offers like the helpline or ‘someone like me’. It can be really helpful to talk to someone who ‘gets’ what you are going through. I think we all worry about burdening family and friends.

I guess with this horrible illness we all just have to plod on taking each step as it comes.

Sending you lots of love and hugs
Let us know how you are doing

Eilyxxx
