I have been toying with the idea of having my ovaries removed for the past 18 months, (BC treatment throughout 2007 and a family history, currently awaiting gene testing results) now I have been discovered to have a large ‘growth’ on one ovary and large cysts on the other. So the decision has been made for me! I saw the gynaecologist on Weds and he arranged various scans and examinations, I went for an initial appointment and managed to have all tests, examinations and the operation consent signed up for, before I had left the hospital a couple of hours later!
I now have received confirmation of the date for key-hole surgery to remove my ovaries and fallopian tubes next month!!!
I was wondering about different recovery experiences.
How long do I tell my employer that I need to have off? The operation is planned for a Friday. The consultant said that I can go back the next week if I wanted to and it was up to me.
Obviously after having had to have almost the whole of 2007 off for treatment I am reluctant to take off any more time, but on the other hand I am a teacher, so have to be physically fit, as i have an active class and rarely sit down for long during the day.
What have other people experienced? I remember after having my wisdom teeth removed I went back 2 days later, after being advised to take the remainder of the week off. Then fainted and had to go home! The after effects of a general anaesthetic can last a few days, can’t they?
Also are you advised to not drive for any period of time?
Sorry I should have discussed this with the consultant, but I was only referred for a dull ache in my stomach, so was a bit shellshocked by all the procedures and outcome!
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend,
Nicky xxx
