Over 70 recently diagnosed with early stage breast cancer

Hi, Isabel here

Are there any older ladies here recently diagnosed with breast cancer?  I would like to

share your experiences in how older people are treated?

Hi Isabel

I am 65 and was diagnosed with BC in May 2015.  I had a mastectomy.  The treatment I received was very good, at all of the appointments I had there were women of varying ages.  I was not treated any differently than anyone else that I am aware of.  At the same time as I had my operation, there was a man in his late 70’s who had been diagnosed with BC and he was treated exactly as I was.

I was offered a softee prothesis on the day of the operation, and then 6 weeks later was measured for a proper one, was given advice on what type of bra to wear. The appointment with the oncologist came through about 6-8 weeks after my operation.

I think a lot of it depends on the health authority, the BC nurse I was under was very helpful and answered any questions that I had and the BC centre was always available if I had any questions, especially before the operation.

I wish you lots of luck, keep on the forum it really is very helpful.
