Overwhelmed and trying not to FREAK OUT

A year ago I had some swelling and discomfort on my right armpit. Doctor sent me for an ultrasound and no abnormality was shown so I went on my merry way thinking probably I need to do a lymphatic massage. Fast forward a year later I noticed a lump on my upper outer quadrant of my right breast and I monitored it for 3 months and it was still there never disappeared or got smaller or bigger. Then like 2 weeks ago I noticed kind of a skin fold on that area too. I told my PCP and she referred me to a general surgeon. I go the appointment and the general’s surgeon sends me to get a bilateral diagnostic mammogram 2D and 3D, along with bilateral ultrasound and ultrasound of the axilla. I go that appointment and got all testing done. The ultrasound tech told me not to put my top on and to wait for the radiologist. Radiologist came in and said I have micro calcifications on my left breast only and a right mass with some calcification and that she needs to get both breast biopsied. My appointment is for November 11. I have no idea what BIRAD I’m in and the radiologist sent me a letter but has my mammogram and ultrasound report on hold, which of course I haven’t seen.

Any input? Thank you in advance.

Dear Dcruz,

Welcome to the forum, we are all here to support you. So sorry to read what you have been going through,

I’m not medically trained to advise you. But from my experience I think it would be a good idea to get in touch with your breast cancer nurse tomorrow, telling her you are feeling very anxious at the moment, also your appointment is still over a week away, hopefully this will help you, until you see your consultant and get some results.

Have a notepad to hand asking all the questions that are worrying you, don’t think you are being a nuisance.

Wishing you well, finger crossed for a good outcome, please come back to let us know how you are getting on

With the biggest hugs Tili :rainbow::pray::rainbow:

Hi dcruz14

Thanks for posting.

People often feel overwhelmed when they notice breast changes and are having investigations, so it’s understandable that you are trying not to freak out. You say that your next appointment is on 11th November.

Waiting for results is often the most worrying time. People cope differently at times of stress. Some people find keeping themselves distracted and others find mindfulness and relaxation such as breathing exercises helpful.

You say that your mammogram and ultrasound are on hold, I wonder if you could speak to your GP about how you are feeling and for further support while you are waiting.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, If you have hearing or speech difficulties prefix our number with 18001 and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this, please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.
